New to me - Loco griddle

I saw this at HD a while ago. Amazon has a 2 burner model with 1 1 star review. Buyer has been trying to get satisfaction without success since late 2023.

Too much technology in a product that doesn’t need it. Really expensive too. No thanks.

Not exactly glowing reviews….on their own website! On Lowe’s website, 19 out of 44 total reviews are 1 and 2 star reviews….yeah, I’ll pass also.

Yikes, even if Meathead had not thoroughly convinced me that dedicated griddles aren’t worth it, this would still look like a bad idea…

Okay, I was just curious. Personally, I've got the SteelMade griddle top for my 3-burner gasser. Love it. While I could see the grease management being better on a dedicated griddle, the griddle top works well. The biggest benefit I could see in a dedicated unit is a larger size. But personally, I like being able to switch from 'grill mode' to 'griddle mode'. Being able to take the griddle top inside for a through cleaning is a nice benefit also.

Grillin Dad I agree! If I had a gasser when I bought my griddle, I’d probably have done the same thing you did. Trying to griddle over charcoal though, it ain’t for me. I just had that SNS half moon griddle, it worked, but too much trouble, not much room for me and being stainless, it was a pain to clean.

I have a dedicated griddle but just don't use it very often. Too much wind in the afternoons and the morning are still so cool here,37 degrees the other day. Just not fired up to do breakfast at those temps. I do need to make an effort to use it more often.

Wow....I remember these when they came out not too long ago. Seemed like every YouTuber had one (and of course, said wonderful things about them) did like four videos.....and then we never saw the Loco again.

That happens a lot when the manufacturer/supplier sends out free units to established YouTubers. They might give an honest review, sorta, but also probably try to be kind to the supplier. I challenged a couple of those guys on the KJ Kettle reviews because it was a poor performer. One admitted he agreed with my assessment, but wanted to be kind, the other deleted my comments because he was more interested in protecting KJ, not the consumer.

On sale at HD or Lowe’s, with price drops. I was tempted. But it looks like the copier at the office when closed.

I'll just stick to my Camp Chef single and double griddles. They've always worked with flawless performance for all my griddle needs. And unlike the Blackstone griddles, They don't have hotter and cooler zones which Blackstone has always had trouble with.

The Explorer Two Burner cooking system is up for any adventure. Two powerful burners, a windscreen, and removable legs make this a durable, versatile unit.

I have an excellent ceramic coated Pit Boss, but I find I rarely use it. I can get what I want from a Lodge Cast iron griddle on my gas grill. I don't do large griddle meals for crowds. Plus, when I am done cooking with my charcoal or gas grill, I serve hot food, I turn them off or snuff the coals and enjoy dinner, wine, company, Netflix. No fussy cleanup. With the large griddle I either have to cleanup and let the food get cold, or turn it off and move inside, and then the next day turn it on and clean it. Besides, I like grilled burgers better than smash burgers. With my small griddle on my gas grill, I can clean it in the sink at my leisure. When I am done with the big one I will be giving it away.

To each his own. There's just the two of us except on very rare occasions, but teppanyaki is much easier to do when everything can be cooked at once, and, for me, cleanup can be done in a minute or two, (so far ).Stir fry seems easier too. And there are many more things to try on the new cooker.

Nothing wrong with your setup, but even with the Lodge cast iron griddle on the gasser you still have to clean it at some point. And with a dedicated griddle you don’t have to bring anything inside. Any griddle you use is going to have stuck on and greasy food. I can also remove my griddle cook top and place it on the driveway to hose it off if I wanted to.

Kim n I had 4 or 5 others over last night. We have been enjoying stir fry fairly often.
I have the ceramic 36"($325) from Victory, same as my gasser w/roti ($700) could not be happier. Sorry, no pics, I am too busy cooking when using the griddle to do anything else besides cook. Everything done appx 15-20min. Kim first brings the chopped veggies, on they go. Next chick or shrimp. When everything ready to come off She brings the rice noodles, cooked. I just toss on the griddle to flavor n heat

Enjoyed reading through this thread. I use my griddle twice a day most everyday. If I had to choose one cooker, it would be the flat top. When finished, I scrape the grease off and wipe down with a couple paper towels, less than one minute cleanup.

Everyone has a preference, just a different perspective.

I only use the "ketchup" squirt bottle full of water for nearly total cleanup. White terry cloth kitchen hand towels to final, and add some avocado oil back. That goes into a bleach solution overnight in a 5gal 3inch "C" tab container from previous pool supplies purch.
It comes out perfect after a wring n rinse. Cannot get past stir fry to try smash burgers.
On the list. Nothing goes down the grease port.

For me, an outdoor griddle is like mowing my lawn. I always think I want to do it, then June happens.

As Meathead mentioned cleanup is a chore. You have to heat it up again after the meal to start the cleaning process. To throw a couple of eggs and sausage on for two people isn't worth the effort. That technology on an outdoor piece of equipment spells nothing but trouble.

I cook and during cleanup Kim has brought the food to be cooked and then preps the table n takes the hot food while I am steaming the griddle clean. Cleanup done in 2 or three min.
Might be diff w/smash burgers and messier concoctions.

Unfortunately here our food cools so fast that you need to be ready to eat immediately as it comes off the cooker. We enjoy our time in the Keys when we can actually eat a hot breakfast.

I am using my griddle more than any other cooker with a close 2nd to the free charcoal kettle I picked up on the side of the road, ala Bonesy.
