I have the 2-burner. I finally used my IR gun to check the temps, and I am very surprised by the results. The hottest spot is on the middle right, in line with the straight burner on that side. 450-460*-ish is the highest, and it is in a very specific, small area. Most of the right side varies from 320*+ at the right front to 420*+ at the rear. On the oval burner side, the hottest is 350*+ in the very middle over the straight section of that burner. Those are all much less than my 2-burner Blackstone produced. Makes a difference in the depth of the char on burgers and such.
Do you 3-burner folks get higher temps? Anyone else with the 2-burner getting higher temps? I thought to ask here before bugging Pit Boss Support. Thxs.
Hey Sam, I’ve got the 2 burner and I’ll check my temps for you later today. I checked my temps when I first got it, and I “think” they were from 450-550…..After having mine for a while now, I’m curious to see if that remains true today. Stay tuned. Paging Steve BUncle BobJfrosty27Jim White Some of you have more than 3 burners, but I’d still be curious what y’all get as well.
I don't remember off the top of my head, but I have gotten some pretty high readings. One thing I try (not always successfully) to keep in mind is that on my 5 burner, even with only 3 or 4 lit, temperature tends to creep up over time, so it may be necessary to keep turning the knob down slightly every now and then on longer cooks.
So one question would be to ask how long you let it run before taking those readings.
Panhead John Interesting results. I pre-heated 20-25 minutes before taking temps. Your TOP and MIDDLE numbers are definitely higher than mine and both LEFT numbers as well. Your CENTER number is close to mine. I can't take the griddle portion off to check the burners - that "no lifting" thing. The burner flames look good and definitely not in a lo-flow situation.
My three burner tends to temp about the se as PJ posts above. Takes a little longer though. More like 15-20 min to get to top level temps. Especially when it’s cold here like it is now.
