I guess I wish I could have one of the 900s... I have the 36" Blackstone and I love it, but the 900 was what I really wanted.

Panhead John That’s definitely the prettiest griddle, and I love the idea of the ceramic surface, but I’m not sure I want to spend that much. I’m often just cooking for myself, and in the past month I’ve been close to pulling the trigger on a Cuisinart, a Blackstone, and now this Camp Chef, which basically means they all look good to me 😍.

big_mack I don’t have any experience with other griddles, but it’s built pretty well I guess. I’m very happy with it. I definitely think it’s the best looking griddle I’ve ever seen. I really like the way all the edges are rounded as well as the blue accents.

Lol, forget the griddle... I still can't help but make googly eyes at that Blackstone table you got! I've got my eye on that one and one other one, but hoping for a sale in a couple of weeks or so before pulling the trigger. Anything you don't like about it or would change?

MillerTime I love it. Nothing I would change or add. Oh in keeping with your screen name, the bottom drawer doubles as a beverage cooler. It has drain holes in the bottom. Just add ice and your favorite bevy. Hmm. What would that be? 🤣

Well MCS got me. Wife says something has to go, though. Free shipping by the way!

Tired of getting burned trying to use griddles or CI pans on the gasser. Anybody need a Spirit II in Yuba County area?

The Pit Boss was my first griddle ever. I bought a DNG last year to use on my kettle as a griddle, PIA to clean, small cooking area, lot of trouble lighting coals for a griddle. I used it twice. If y’all haven’t had a dedicated griddle before, you’re gonna love it whatever kind you get. I should have got one years ago.

Does anyone know if Walmart and Pit Boss/Sierra parted ways? I looked at one a couple weeks ago and now it doesn’t even show up on Walmart’s site. Uncle Bob

Sid, they’re temporarily out, they’re still selling em though I think….. 🧐Steve B was looking at getting one too and he can’t find any either. The Sierra is the way to go if you can wait a bit. It’s a 3 burner and much cheaper than the other 3 burner Pit Boss in blue.

EDIT: I can get it to show up in a few places on Walmart’s site, but they all say Out Of Stock.

Same as PJ, shows on their site, but out of stock. I've also got the FTG600 and it's a well built unit, terrific if you've got to have that size and a standard rolled steel top that needs initial seasoning and then routine re-seasoning. If you want a metal top cover that's extra though, about another $100. I've still got it, but I use the PB Ultimate 4 burner instead because of the easier maintenance. With the metal cover already included, and the ceramic either 3 or 4 burner Ultimate wins.

hoovarmin I must say…I’m thoroughly ashamed of your comment above! You should never encourage another member to buy something in a haste like that. Remember, we always tell them to take their time and weigh their options, never trying to sway them toward one product over another….🤭

Wow things have gone up! I was gonna say $429 was high, but that is what Blackstone 4 burners are going for.

All I can say is the Blackstone has a grease / scrapings catcher in the back, which is just awesome. It gets hot when the grill is in use, so don't just grab it all willy-nilly without letting it cool off first. But at least for me, it has never got so hot the grease catches on fire. Im not sure where the Camp Chef drip tray is.

But a griddle is a solid piece of gear. You will find it cannot be beat for things like burgers, fish, and of course breakfast items. You can whip up fried rice, you can use it for veggies, you can use it to sear steaks, and so on.

You will not be sorry buying one. If anything you are gonna think "WHY did I not get this sooner".

Camp Chef has a front grease trough that drains into a grease cup to the end of the griddle, on one of the side tables. Grease cup never gets noticeably hot. I keep mine lined with foil inserts that I found on Amazon like 30 for $5 or something like that.

Now that we’ve turned this thread into a free for all I’d like to point out another difference in the Pit Boss griddle vs. the other one. IMO this is not an insignificant difference, Uncle Bob pointed this out in his original review of the Pit Boss griddle. Now that I’ve used mine several times, I’ve come to really appreciate this thoughtful little touch.

If you’ll notice in the pics, Pit Boss has their shelves located well below the griddle surface. I’ve noticed this more when the lid is closed, but a lot of heat is generated out to the sides of the griddle. When placing or removing things on the shelves, I rarely feel any heat from the griddle. When using plastic squirt bottles I can leave them on the shelf without worry of melting or warming the contents too much. Maybe not a big deal to some, but I like it.
P.S. And I really like having a metal lid and 4 wheels for easy maneuvering on flat surfaces!

My blackstone shelves are lower than the griddle surface too. But side heat is still a vey real thing. One of these centuries I am gonna source two stainless steel plates, bend a section 90 degrees, then drill some holes so I can use bolts and wingnuts to act as a heat deflector. Just remember - DO NOT TOUCH THE DEFLECTORS without first checking them with the IR thermometer....

        #12
Sid P just some convo to stoke your thinking. The 3 burner Ultimate griddle surface is only roughly 1" smaller than the FTG600 in each length and depth. The 4 burner Ultimate is about 5" longer, and 1" shorter in depth. Regardless of brand, including all the other units on the market, effective heat area is decided by burner size and style (not talking about btu rating because that's often a functionally meaningless numbers game). The edges will not be as hot as the areas directly over the burners (obviously) but as experience using a griddle grows a user learns that those variances are a working tool though newbs often see it as a negative until they learn. All that is to point out that of the three mentioned there's only a slight size "advantage" to the Ultimate 4 burner, and slight difference between the CC 600 and the Ultimate 3 burner, though the 600 will have more even heat distribution across the entire surface due to the large deflector welded to the bottom of the griddle plate.

Given that Walmart shows out of stock, that may mean that inventories are low to out in other locations. I got an email notification from Camping World over night that their inventories are running low, though they actually drop ship from PB in most cases. Don't know if that's motivational hype or reality.

I almost forgot, but the griddle and burner assembly is also easily removed if you’d like to take it tailgating, camping or just to use at a vacation home occasionally. It’s easily removed from the cart in less than a minute. The only exception is the 5 burner model.

Thanks for all the help ("help"?😅) gents. Your feedback about low maintenance really hit home, and I don’t need a 36", so I got busy this morning and found the 3-burner Sierra 75 miles away. I’m gonna take a little road trip, have lunch at a great micro brewery, and pick up my new griddle.

Steve B. Search "Sierra griddle at Walmart" to find the page. They aren’t shipping or transferring to stores, but you can search by zip code and hopefully find one nearby. Good luck!

I have the Pit Boss branded version. Two spatula and a scraper. Bought via Amazon. The spatulas came as a set of two, the scraper was a separate line item. They’re a little pricey but so far have worked really well. If I knew how to post a link on my phone I would. Sorry. I’m old. 🤷‍♂️

I use these every cook. The grey one is hi temp nylon, rigid, great for scraping "fond" or other sticky stuff. The blue one is silicone, great squeegee for moving oil or water efficiently to the trap. The various Di Oro brand silicone spatulas are quality products, just search and choose the style you like, many shapes available.

I really like these. They’re heat resistant up to 600*. The material they’re made of is also nonstick. Any food residue on the spatulas comes off easily. The one on the right in the pic, I’ve also used on smash burgers. Sturdy enough to flatten the meatball.
