Charcoal and gass grill combo, thoughts

I have been tasked with finding my brother-in-law a charcoal/gas combo for his wedding anniversary by his wife. She has a healthy budget...any ideas?

Yeah, I have an idea. Buy a gas grill and a charcoal grill. 😂

i recommended a cheap gas grill and the PBC. that was shot down. they don't understand the power of a good charcoal webber

That's a practical combo but not the prettiest.

I owned a Char-Griller. It wasn’t the most durable grill, but the gas side did a great job on high temp grilling and the charcoal side had a charcoal basket that could be raised and lowered closer and farther away from the food. I also added a fire box for smoking or grilling small quantity’s of foods. Smoking foods was more challenging.

As suggested above by Attjack a 22” Weber charcoal grill and a Weber gas grill would make a great combo.

Or kamado like the Primo XL (or maybe a Weber Summit charcoal, or a Pk grill, or Santa maria grill) and a Weber Genesis.

These have always seemed, to me, to be roughly th cooker equivalent of a TV/VCR combo, so I decided they weren't a good fit, here at FBB,FWD.

Other's mileage may vary greatly, an I certainly do not mean to denigrate anybody else's cooker.

Yep. I cooked on one or two of them. NOT impressed.

I guess one question is how much capacity is needed for each part? I get along fine with a large BGE and the smallest TEC infrared gasser (Cherokee FR). (And of course the KBQ for real smoking). We don't entertain a lot, but the BGE alone can handle 6-8 people easily. The TEC is about the size of a 2-burner conventional gasser, which is fine for what we use gas for.

Just saying I agree with others suggesting a pair rather than a single unit. More flexibility in your choices.

the grill would be used for his family only. they are local to me and i have all the smokers and good gas grills. just something she wants to do for him.

Not sure what the budget is but a buddy of mine has the Coleman Evenheat Dual Fuel charcoal/propane combo, and it works a treat. But not the cheapest...I wanna say they go for something like 6 bills.

Doesn't Napoleon have a gas grill that you can get an optional charcoal box for??

No direct experience, but there is one that has won a platinum award here by our very own Max Good.

Read our review of the Vision Professional S-Series Kamado which has some unique and interesting features not found on other ceramics.

Seems legit. $1000 and change with the gas device added on.

Yeah, if 5 figures is acceptable... Kalamazoo up the wazoo.
With heavy, cast bronze burners and heat circulation other grills aspire to, this is the highest-performance gas grill available.
