I'm curious if there is a way to use the Campchef searbox as a stand alone piece of equipment. I just got the Rec Tec Bull with the smokebox, so there's no way to mount it to the side of the smoker even if I wanted to try. I love the idea of having the searbox for a reverse sear. Anyone ever rigged it up on its own? Thanks!
I don't have either, but a quick look on Amazon got me a peek. Could you drill a couple of matching holes in each and bolt them together? You might have to reinforce the sides if doing that. Or either buy or build a small table for the searbox to sit on.
I toyed with this idea on my GMG before I resigned to buying a grill to do the job. my idea was a plate that had a sleeve that would go over the drain spout. You would slide it up over the drain spout, then bolt it to the side of the grill, and a spot for the burner would be welded to this plate, it would slide into place, and thus be removable. This gives you the rigidity needed without welding a plate to the inside to support it. The issue I see with this, is unless you want to spend 150-200 dollars to have someone build it for you, you're better off buying a cheap portable grill, and adapting it to hold the sear box, or building a table system.
I also just purchased the new RecTec RT700 Bull and would love to figure out a way to mount one of these sear boxes to it. I may have to just build some kind of separate table to mount it to.
