Smoking sausage

What is the best smoker for smoking homemade sausage? I would prefer something as set and forget as possible, like the electric smoker I used before, but it just crapped out on me and now going through reviews here found out it was not recommended for anything.

Pellets have the reputation of being 'set and forget'. I don't use them, but I would suggest start looking in that direction.

What is your price range?

While not totally set it and forget it, a low cost offset vertical with a gas burner installed in the firebox would rock. I did this with a cheap offset and a homemade sausage rack.

Would like to get an offset vertical. Maybe tax season will drop some bling on me.

Yeah, a vertical is kinda what I was thinking, too. I like the thought of an offset, but a gas burner in the firebox sounds awesome. Budget? Not sure just yet, but probably not as much as this setup.

My Camp Chef smoke vault does a great job with sausage. Propane is pretty low workload and you get great smoke from wood chunks. Sausage rack is available. Can't beat the price, either.

This is the Smoke Hollow 44241G2 44in Vertical Propane Smoker. I use it quite often for various things, but it's my main sausage smoker. I got it on amazon for about $250. It changes in price quite often I've noticed.

Sorry I didn’t specify, but I’d actually like to be able to do both. Probably mostly hot, though. That’s why I liked my previous electric smoker. I only used it for hot, but it had an attachment that could be added for cold smoking, too. Luckily (I guess) it died before I spent the money on it.
