Cooking outdoors in Norway, using a Trangia

So, where on a road trip to Norway, slept in the car (Tesla model Y, with camping mode engaged). Worked great! We’re doing all cooking on a Trangia which is a small portable cooking device. I think it’s made in Sweden, it’s been around for many years (1925 I think) and it’s super convenient. It’s fueled by some kind of ethylated spirits. My lack of technical terms in English fall short here. Anyhow, you can boil water, fry stuff, more or less anything really. We did pasta bolognese, we’ve fried up some links, we’ve made porridge and tea in the morning.

Oh, and yes, Norway is amazingly beautiful! We drove from Sweden via Oslo to Bergen where we’re at now. Going on a mountain hike tomorrow, with the Trangia in the backpack.

Driving from Oslo to Bergen meant driving over and across Hardangervidda, about 1250 meters above sea level. I’ll post more pics later, Elton's BBQ knows what I’m talking about.

Fantastic. Back packing in Europe back in the 80’s. Started off north through Norway, Sweden and Finland. Absolutely beautiful.

Thanks for posting this. Brings back great memories. Have fun.

Went to Stockholm & Gothenburg in March, and Oslo & Bergen in May. Enjoyed both very much.

What a marvelous trip you both are on. Bergen is such a lovely little city. We traveled parts of your trip before before Covid restrictions first came on the scene. So beautiful! Thank you for sharing the photos with us.

Enjoy every minute of your trip, even the sleeping in the car part.

Decided on a challenging hike today. It really was, a tough climb, but it was real nice.

The ol & vinstove means beer and wine bar.
