Thinning the herd… From 30 cookers to 12?

At one time I was up to 24 Weber charcoal grills and smokers. I got rid of most of them, but ended up with a bunch of misc. grills and smokers. Now I am building a house and will have limited room on my porch.

    KEEP
    1. Solution Smoker (offset) - I am going to build a nice 8x12 pavilion type structure between my house and the woodshed. It will be 25 feet from each.
    2. Weber Summit Kamado Grill - On the porch.
    3. PK Aaron Franklin Grill - On the porch, my daily cooker.
    4. Camp Chef Gridiron Griddle - On the porch.
    5. 70th Anniversary 22” Weber Kettle - Stored in the garage, will pull out as needed, especially for rotisserie.
    6. Modified 22” Weber Kettle - Stored on a shelf. Specially modified to easily haul under a tonneau cover. Used when I cook for clients.
    7. Weber Jumbo Joe Kettle - Stored on a shelf. Formerly my “small, personal” travel grill.
    8. Nomad Grill - Has mostly replaced my modified Weber Kettle travel grill and my Jumbo Joe for travel cooking.
    9. Original PK Grill - Storing until I build my “shack” in the woods, then it will be the “shack” grill.
    10. Weber 22” Smokey Mountain - Stored in garage. On wheels, will pull out as needed.
    11. Weber 18” Smokey Mountain - Stored in garage. Keeping when I travel to cook for clients or friends.
    12. Circle J Firepit, 30” with grate. Sits in front of the porch, will be mainly used as a fire pit, but also used for cooking.
    13. Cookshack Electric Smoker, stainless steel, insulated, commercial grade. Stored in the garage, will pull out as needed. Mostly used as a holding warmer (with an AuberSmart digital controller, I can hold anything at 150° indefinitely) and to cook/smoke summer sausage
(Edited to add #13. I missed it.)

    UNDECIDED
    1. Spare Weber Jumbo Joe - New. I have just switched over to the Nomad so not using the jumbo Joe much anymore.
    2. Weber Charcoal Go Anywhere with stainless steel food grates - Just not using it anymore.
    3. PKGO - Portable PK Grill. Never used. Don’t like the roughness of the cast iron grates.
    4. Lodge Cast Iron Sportsman Grill - Have only used it 3 or 4 times, so may as well sell.
    5. Weber 14” Smokey Mountain - Bought to play with. Just too redundant.
Got any feedback for me? Especially on the UNDECIDED.

Send that NIB Weber Jumbo Joe to me😉. Really though, all the undecideds are portable/travel grillls and since you have two in the keep pile already, I’d sell all of them.

Also, we should make this thread sticky so that when one of us gets questioned by SWMBO during a bout of MCS, we can point to this list to confirm that we aren’t being unreasonable👍🏻

Andrrr, I’m super fortunate that my lovely wife supports my addiction. But in public we play the stereotypes to the hilt. I put up a picture of a new grill on Facebook and ask my friends to not tell her. Then she shows up and protests and threatens to sell my grills. It’s all great fun.

The real issue here: why would one build a house without room for grills?

I got excited and thought there was another fan of Social Darwinism here. Remove ALL warning stickers and let nature run it's course I say.

Fair question… I decided I want to streamline my life. We built a 14x32 porch with the door into our kitchen/dining room, and another door into our shop/garage. I can roll out anything I need In about 30 seconds, But decided to only keep the things on my porch that I will regularly use.

i’m not getting rid of anything because of a room issue. it’s about streamlining and decluttering my life.

Considering the new prices of the PKGO, it's a hard grill to get rid of. I'm still not a fan of the stock grates... companies make ash baskets for it, but haven't seen stainless grates yet. With the flip kit it's just such an easy grill to take somewhere, I only smoke with it at home just to make myself think, but I take it to work sometimes for a good hibachi session.

If you can get custom stainless grates made for the PKGO that looks like the keeper of the undecided bunch since it in theory will last forever and not degrade between large periods of no use, and it offers a slightly different cooking experience compared to your keep pile.

Nice list. I think you have it covered, though the 22" weber kettle and 70th anniversary kettle is redundant. But being redundant does not mean it does not have a purpose. Though I have a 22" kettle, I bought the 70th anniversary kettle too. JUST HAD TO HAVE IT! And it does serve a purpose.

Ah, you and I are similar in that we love PK products. With the addition of the new PK300 to they're line up (do not understand why they did not put a temp gauge in), the Original PK has been phased out. I assume you have the original stand. Hold on to it. In fact, there are a lot of PK accessories that have been phased out. I bought one of the first 100 PK360's (#66) and it came with the ironwood shelves. They don't make those shelves anymore

Again, great list. Wish you were my neighbor

The second 22” Weber Kettle has been specially modified to haul it under a tonneau cover on a pick
up. So it will sit on the shelf unless I need to haul it.
