The top grate seems a bit far from the charcoal.

Last time I went to Aldi's, someone was coming out as I was going in. I just gave that person .25 and they gave me their cart.

Last time I was there I made 75 cents putting other people's carts back.

The fact that it has four casters on it makes it worth the premium price compared to Kroger carts, imho.

I fired all Krogers long ago. Some for being unsanitary, others for no cart maintenance. Got tired of the carts riding so rough that my 2 liter sodas were flat and there were curds in my whole milk bottle before I could get to the checkout. I know I shouldn't be so picky but it's all about me all time ya know

tmaan235 Barney Kroger began by pedaling coffee door to door here in Cincy.
Promised (usually the lady of the house) the absolute best cup o' joe they had ever had.
If not he would be on his way. He started by scrubbing the pot sparkling clean.
nine times outta ten, Ima guessing, he would have a new customer.
Kroger is a big, big deal here in Cincy. I think they are currently trying to take over the next major competitor. It is not Aldi's.

Since carts are available for “free” elsewhere, why should I pay this massive Aldi premium price?

It's a rental. After you're done cooking you can take it back to the store and get your deposit back :-) The 25 cents just makes it more likely that all of the grills get returned to the same general area.

And the cool thing about this program is that you get a new grill each time you rent.

I'd be SOL; I haven't carried change for ages. Do Aldi's carts take debit cards?

fkrall, there's a decent chance someone has left their quarter on the box for the next person. That's how it is at my local Aldi anyway.

I kinda feel like I used to see this regularly on a crazy show called "Raising Hope" 10 to 15 years ago, where the dad grills on a shopping cart in the backyard... and he sure didn't spring 25 cents for his "grill".

If you enjoyed “Raising Hope” or “My Name is Earl” Greg Garcia has a show now on Amazon Prime named “Sprung.” Same writer, producer, and you will recognize many of the same actors. Funny comedy in the same vein.

A long time ago in upstate NY I went to an all-day pig roast. The pit was a big fire surrounded by a few cinder blocks. The grate was two dismantled shopping carts wired together. Roasted pig, beer, and bluegrass...one of the best days ever.

I am not going to be able to look at a shopping cart the same again....
