If you’re shopping Ace/Big Box, these are the products and brands you are going to see. From that perspective, the article goes a long way toward guiding a buyer to a product that they would be happy with for a long time.

There’s nothing wrong with the products in that article. We debate the ‘best’ all the time here and I’ve ever only seen inconclusive stalemates. Heck, if someone new asks what the best smoker is and lead with a preference for a pellet grill 50 people still tell them to buy a Weber Kettle. Weber Genesis always get great reviews from Max. Mine is a great gas grill. Traeger grills are just fine and the newer ones are actually pretty nice. The biggest disagreement I have is with the BGE, but that might be as much my dislike for the color green.
For mainstream consumers, these could be the best grills. They’re available in retail, most of them have tons of both factory and third party accessories and replacement parts. There’s tons of them around, so lots of sites and videos showing how to do specific things with these products.
Much better than the articles that link to junk NexGrill and such brands.Last edited by glitchy; July 26, 2022, 09:03 AM.

And say what you want about BGE, that lifetime warranty is HUGE. Go to the Egghead Forum and you will read story after story about ceramics being replaced, with just a photograph for proof. My dealer told me he has never had a warranty claim denied, even after a fall.

glitchy You brought up some very valid points about the article. I didn’t see a dog in the bunch that they recommended. A lot of us have those very same grills/cookers. I’m actually surprised at some of the criticism directed towards them for that article. The average person is not a member or user of Amazing Ribs, so I’m actually glad there’s other mainstream resources for them, such as this CNN article.

In answer to your query, CNN it appears to placate advertisers.
An issue, as fire regulations increase only electric grills are allowed, as in NO Fire grill, is some cities for renters.
Also, in the news window AC units are in violation for fire regs and are being banded to do fire hazard. Turns out residential extension cords overheat due to the AC load.

Retired, living in Western Mass. Enjoy music, cooking and my family.
Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.
Thanks for sharing Huskee. However, I'm not going to read it as I have no confidence or see any value for CNN or any other media outlet that has to say about grills. I need one source and that are the reviews here at Amazingribs.com and you the Pitmasters. And if I bought another grill, my wife would never mind it, as it would be ugly.

Weird, CNN, and the rest of the cable "news" networks laughable sources for anything to be sure, thinks Traegers are awesome smokers. The article is trash from start to finish. LOL
If I hear more thing about Traeger, I might go off the deep end.
"Oh, I have a smoker, I love smoking, have you ever heard of Traeger?"
"Oh you like smoking meat? Do you have a Traeger? Casue I have a Traeger"

I liked the article and for someone starting out shopping at a big box store this is what you will see. Traeger, BGE and Weber are market leaders with good distribution. Traeger and Weber were pioneers in the industry. I agree we are not normal people or the target audience for this article. I have two smokers and a gas grill and I would like a few more not counting a pizza oven and gas griddle.

There are quite a few people in my area with pellet burners, and a fair number of Komodo smokers, Green Egg or a knockoff. Most of pellet burners are Traeger, Green Mountain or Pit Boss. That's what Ace Hardware and Walmart sell. And of course inexpensive gas grills, with the "high end" being those with Webers. So at least they can relate to my gas grill.
How many around here have an OG or Blaz'n? You mean counting me?
When I was in the town BBQ competition, people stopped to ask about my PBC, because they had never seen one before. An orange Bronco Pro? That's over at the other house, but if I had it here that would really blow their minds!
Nope, definitely not normal! But the normal people do like to eat my food.
