$90 for Camp Chef 24 inch Smoke Vault

Including propane tank half full. Filthy, but all there. To carwash with grates and pans; a start. May have to ship all to
fzxdoc, since she seems to be a clean freak.
Guy was selling his second home, cleaning out stuff. Hadn't used it since he got a Primo.
Interesting house on 50 acres east side of Chinook Pass.. Approaching house on long driveway, had to let herd of over 20 elk amble by.

This will pair nicely with my $200 large BGE. And my $1,200 MAK 2 Star. And my $150 Fuego gasser. All courtesy Craigs List.

Not much talks louder in your pocket than Benjamins, unless it is a ,45.

Great find and bargain. Even with all the cookers in my backyard my original Smoke Vault still gets plenty of use. Funny you mentioned elk as I first learned of Smoke Vaults on a hunting trip for elk where the camp cook was producing some great food from one in the middle of nowhere. That’s where I learned you can bake in them too.

Prior owner obviously used this rig a lot. Oven cleaner pretty effective on pans, racks, exterior. Am considering removing burner and blasting interior. Rig works pretty well. Flame probably not quite optimal, too much orange at low flame I think. Burner parts will probably benefit from cleaning and blowing out. It has been sitting for a couple of years.

To you folks who know what you are doing, is this a decent plan?

Wowza what a deal! Take before/after pictures so I can see where all your elbow grease went.

Anyone have experience cleaning grates, for instance, with ammonia in a sealed plastic bag?

I would try oven cleaner in a bag. I don’t think I would use ammonia.

Garbage bags with oven cleaner (no fume kind), just like jfmorris said.

          More cleaning ideas:

I gave my Weber kettle grill its 'beginning of the season' cleaning today. Yes, I know, late start. :( I was truly impressed by how much 'stuff' came off the interior of the lid and bowl. They look a lot better now. (I bought a new grate for this year.) Still, there's a good amount of stuff still clinging to the interior, and I

Of course, I recommend my famous Grill Rescue Brush!

Overall, I'd highly recommend the Grill Rescue Brush. I think it is the best cleaning device I've ever had. This one is for you Huskee . The brush is dishwasher safe for 100 uses per head, uses steam to clean, no wires, and leaves no residue on your smoker. For background, I've used scrubby wipes (disintegrate after 2-3

So, the high school chemistry experiment is a roaring success. Combine 2 cups ammonia, 1 13 gal garbage bag, 1 very cruddy smoker grate. Cinch bag tight, wrap throat with tape. Lay flat on garage floor for 9 hours. Cut open bag, extract grate, rinse off in sink with pad and brush. Nearly new! Would be as new if I had utilized my wife's tooth brush to get Into nooks and crannies. Only real skill is the ability to hold your breath when pouring and discarding ammonia.

I have chosen not to post this in the recipes thread.

You's be spending even more time in the garage with that reclaimed cooker had your wife discovered her toothbrush missing! I hear the garage floor can be hard and cold for sleeping.

I mean if I you put the toothbrush back, would she have noticed? 🤣

But the cost is mounting. 1.5 cans oven cleaner so far. $3.00 for half gallon ammonia. Had the bags. Plus gas for 80 mile round trip. I is over $130 on this. Not counting my unproductive retired labor.
But, once I get the grates clean, and the exterior civilized, and no falling hunks on the interior, I will consider the remaining crud mine, and won't care. However, awaiting news on any new royalty program from AR for new, entertaining, non scandalous content.

So, ammonia is alkaline, with a pH between 11 and 12.

First grate in ammonia bag, 9 hours. 2nd grate, 24 hours. More time is better, no need to purloin wife' s toothbrush.
Blew out valve and burner. Nuts and bolts are metric. Need to reassemble.

To those of you with this smoker, how important is sealing the door, with LavaLock, for instance?

Mine leaks a bit. I bought some LavaLock type stuff, but never used it. It still cooks great. Love cooking on this thing with mesquite chunks. The smell is awesome!

Mine is sealed, is a bit easier to hold temp, but not much different.
