Gas Grill... Running a dedicated propane feed and eliminate the tank.

Hi, kind of new here. 1st post. Love the site, The Pit, currently reading the book. Getting more knowledge with every page turn.
Here is the question. I have a Genesis II LX S-340 LP Gas Grill. I want to convert to dedicated propane line as my home is LP. I read the article by Meathead; Gas Grills: Buying Guide, Reviews, And Ratings. It got me thinking about safety when the section on flow control and regulator adjustment came up. I have a quote from a licensed plumber. There will be a permit and inspection. The grill performs well. Temperature regulation is ideal. I don't want to mess with it and safety is a major factor. Are there any questions I should ask? Has anyone done this to their grill? Advice is greatly appreciated.

Here is a quote from their website. "Propane grills are sometimes also run off of bulk propane tank systems, but they have to be connected using a Weber bulk LP installation kit (available by calling 1-800-446-1071)."

I had a licensed contractor run a Natty G-line for my gasser and fire pit. I simply bought the conversion kit and installed it, really easy. Weber will help you with everything you need. Including the kit.

Best of luck. We love project pics too. This would be great for other members to see how it's done. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

thanks this is helpful. I will question the plumber on this and go to this quote when I find the link on the Weber page. When he looked at the grill he saw it's a Weber and said Oh, Weber good that will be easy. So hopefully he is familiar and did a Weber before.

I honestly cannot remember, it was part of the patio reconstruction.

I receive 2 quotes. 1st was $800 & 2nd $700. Both were consistent. A 40 ft run from the line in basement to the grill with bringing it up to the deck and the connection to the grill. Includes the permit & inspection.

My home doesn't have a gas line running to it, but there is a buried LP tank belonging to a local gas company that feeds into the house for a couple of gas fireplaces. They did all the installation for that, and also mentioned they could run a line for a gas grill if we ever decided we wanted that. Nah, I'm good. But, good to know that is an option.

got the quote from the plumber. took advice here and also reached out to Weber. Ordered the adaptor/regulator today for about $55 with tax and shipping. Weber has a specific team that deals with bulk connections. Grill is registered and they saw the serial # and verified the part that I was provided via a web inquiry to weber support for my grill. I was told 7 to 10 business days... was hoping for prior to Memorial Day to cook with my entire family being here for the weekend. Oh well still have a half a tank.

Thanks for the advice. Let you know how it worked out after the install and 1st cook.

Promise pics will be provided once the project starts. Plumber says less than a day. Then end result will be posted. Thank you for you guidance Spinaker.

Finally got the bulk LP install completed Thursday. Here are some pictures. 1st is prior to the final hook up. The other are today, post hook up. I ran the grill for awhile this PM. Got it up to 500 plus in a matter of minutes, Then shut 2 burners off and held a 225 for about 1/2 hour. So far so good. Going to do a bone in NY Strip Steak tonight with grilled corn.

A thought about running a hard line that is not related to this thread since it's LP to LP. IF you would like to convert your LP grill to natural gas and hard plumb it, you'll lose "diversity". We we going to convert our Weber grill to NG for the convenience (no more refilling LP tanks), then we experienced a NG outage that lasted four days. Our indoor oven was NG, so, aside from a CrockPot, we'd have been SOL cooking wise without the LP grill had we converted to NG. That grill and a wood fireplace made the house livable, although we had no hot water for those four days. Just sayin'.

Propane is the only gas source. 500 gallon U.G. tank. Heat and hot water and fire place. Now the gasser.
