With the overhaul of the Genesis range do people thinks the Spirit's days are numbered? I see that both Lowe's and Home Depot have just dropped the Spirit prices by $50 and I recall they did a similar thing last year with the Genesis grills.
I wish I'd picked up a gen 1 Genesis E330 last year, but didn't want to spend the money, and I don't really want to spend the money on a Spirit right now, but if they're going to discontinue them I will have to bite the bullet...
I had a quick look around me, lots of natural gas versions, but all the propane units are the old models with side to side burners. Also if I'm buying something I'm going to use for the next 10+ years I don't mind buying the new version, I just wasn't planning on buying it this year.
In some ways, the side to side is better. I rebuilt one and gave it to my son. He did ribs on them and they were great!. If you use the front burner for your heat, and put your wood there for smoke, it naturally rolls over the meat and out the back. Hard to do with front to back burners.
I wuld be surprised if Spirit is discontinued, but they may revamp as was done with Genesis.
I should have put discontinued in inverted commas based on what was available last year vs this for the Genesis. If the Spirit range goes the same way then we'll see a sear burner option disappear and potentially a two tier approach, with a price hike.
Weber Summit Kamado with SnS and Vortex.. Broil King Baron, Primo Oval Junior. Primo XL. Love grilling steaks, ribs, and chicken. Need to master smoked salmon. I noticed the the Spirit grills I looked at at Home Depot do not have the double layer of steel in the lid. Is this because Weber is cutting corners on the cheaper models? Or was it not properly assembled?
