    Weber Genesis Silver Rebuild

I finally got around to cleaning and rebuilding my older Weber Genesis Silver. This is the second time that I've done this, the last time was probably 5-6 years ago.

I bought this grill in 2005 and it's been a solid gas grill for me. After a good cleaning/scraping/wire brushing I replaced the following:

    Flavorizer Bars
    Gas tube set
Grates (first time I've replaced the grates)
    Warming Rack
Cover (first time I've replaced the cover)

Not replaced, but replaced last time:
    Gas line
    Ignitor

It's been a pretty good grill for 13+ years. I should be good for another few years provided nothing every happens to the controllers - I don't know how I'd ever replace those. I don't see where Weber sells replacements for them.

I was thinking about the "before" after it was too late...

All I have left to do after the 4 1/2 hour effort last night is double check for any leaks and put it back on the porch. I'm in the middle of smoking a brisket on the WSM right now so that may have to wait.

Wow my old Weber gasser is in serious need of a rebuild also. I'm not sure exactly which model it is but looks nearly identical to that except the handle is more square vs. round... and oh, mine is still in need of a rebuild.

It's pretty easy to Google some Weber's and come up with which model it is so you can find parts if you're interested. I actually stumbled on a weber forum that had some information too, as I'm looking to add a kettle off of CL.

Nice rebuild. Looks like that unit will last you a long time.

Nice job! I have a 2002 Weber Silver B that still works like new. I did a minor rebuild about 5-6 years ago. I guess they do make things just like the "old days".

That looks like a grate job.

Looks as good as new! The aluminum cook box will last forever! I am surprised the igniter still worked.

I found one similar on CL, (black top) and rebuilt it and gave it to my son. He loves it. He cooked some ribs on it last weekend and they were great. I actually like the way the burners com from the side. If you light the front one, it is great for 2 zone cooking. He had a pellet tray on the front burner heat deflector and it put a nice smoke flavor on the ribs.

The ignitor is actually in really good shape - the box around the ignitor is starting to corrode but it has no holes and still lights on first push. Surprised, yes. I did replace it the last time.

I actually have been looking at some grills on CL right now - Kettles - some great deals to be had.

Thanks guys. I had the WSM cranking yesterday but I did toss a couple chicken breasts on the gasser and she performed excellent.

This is EXACTLY why I'm a Weber Man. You can always get parts for these grills. And a good rebuild is still MUCH cheaper than buying a new Weber grill.

I bought it at HD. It is for the Genesis 200-300. It's not a perfect match to the old one but it fits very well. What I like more about (after a day lol) it is it doesn't have the mesh "window" that the old one had, which should keep the grill cleaner.
