Checking new grill for hot/cold spots

A couple of weeks ago, I replaced an old Brinkman three-burner gas grill with a new Weber E300. The old grill had developed a pronounced uneven heat across the surface that, despite my crude efforts at refurbishment, was not going to recover without a complete new burner package. Thus the much needed change.

I ordered a set of three 15" Grill Grates for the new grill, and while I was waiting for delivery decided to check the temps across the surface. I don't have an infrared camera, but do have a laser thermometer that would work just fine for my crude test.

The outside air temp was 49o F with no wind blowing. I decided to test it like I cook... a ten-minute "warm up" with all three burners on High with the lid closed, followed by opening the lid and throwing meat around before closing it again for the cooking process. For this test, I just warmed it up for the ten minutes and measured the temps at a pre-determined twelve spots with the laser weapon.

    Here are the "official" results...

I'll add that after the above measurements I closed the grill for another ten minutes and the temps of all the above spots were above 700o F for whatever that's worth.

Good deal - now you know where to rotate when necessary.

          You're right, Dan. LOL

When my wife was in labor for our first child, I was measuring the time between contractions and then predicting (pretty accurately) when the next one was due. After about three of my "predictions", my wife told me to, "Get Outta Here!!!" (I left.)
