Has anyone looked at, or played with the new models. Curious as to how they stack up.

First, Welcome from Indiana...
I've just seen the pictures and read a few things...
I'm hoping Max Good will drop a review ASAP... but if it is anything like the WSCG then he is sworn to secrecy....

Haven't seen one but from what I can see on the website it looks like they've expanded(and cheapened) the line.

Welcome to the Pit, Pete! If billg71 is right about Weber cheapening the Genesis (a real shame if true), you might want to snap up a current version of the EP-330 while you still can. I've had one for a little over a year now and couldn't imagine anything better.

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

Petewinter , I spent some time on the Weber and Home Depot sites checking out the new grills and it looks like there's good news and bad news.
Since I've had my S-330 for almost 2 years, I decided to compare it with the equivalent model, the new LS X-340. I got some info from the Weber site but Home Depot allowed me to directly compare specs between the older and newer models, here's a link
First of all, there a lot more models, everything from 2 burners to 6. Could Weber be looking at phasing out the Spirit/Summit grills? I count 27 SKU's on the HD site with the only color choices(other than black or stainless) being in the open-base 4-burner model, the E-410. There you can get Copper, Crimson and Smoke as well. Here's the Home Depot page with all the models: Weber Genesis II
Cooking area is roughly equivalent between the two with a slight advantage to the newer model. The two grills weigh about the same, according to Home Depot. Size is within an inch or so, the S-330 weighs in at 190, the LX S-340 weighs 185.
The new grills have a redesigned burner system that puts out about 15% more BTUs and claims to have more even heat distribution front-rear, my S-330 gets a little cooler at the back of the grill.
They have a new cabinet design and larger wheels on one end to make it easier to move around. It looks like they moved the tank outside the cabinet so you get more room for storage and they added an LED readout for the tank gauge. Having the tank outside looks like it will make it easier to use the spring scale, something I found extremely aggravating in my Genesis. And it comes with a handle light and a side burner.
I like the idea of the fold-down warming grate, I'd have to see one to see how sturdy it is when in the up position. From what I can see it looks like it wouldn't be hard to bump it so that a whole rack of food falls on the hot grill grates.
I downloaded the literature kit for the new grill, first thing is that it looks like assembly is much simpler. Instead of getting a box full of panels and parts, the new model is shipped with the base, doors, grill body, lid and casters assembled at the factory. Just lift it off the pallet base and the basic assembly is complete. The side tables, side burner, tank shields and a few other parts have to be installed but it's a whole different world from putting together an older Genesis.
Since every Weber gasser I've owned was assembled by the dealer, this is probably more of a benefit to them than the end user. It may be a QC thing for Weber, easier to do it at the factory than handle the support requests from a sloppy assembly job. Or it may be that dealers aren't going to be assembling the grills anymore, load your box and you're on your own. If that's the case or you're buying on the Internet the easier assembly is a big bonus!
Overall, from what I can see on the Web it's a nice upgrade to the Genesis line. Maybe I won't be trading in my S-330 anytime soon but it looks like the new model has some real improvements.
So what's the bad news? For me, the lack of a sear burner is pretty significant. And there's the price:The S-330 cost $949(down to $849 now while Home Depot is still selling it) and the LS X-340 costs $1299. The 4-burner stainless model will set you back $1599, the 6-burner $1999.
I still want to see one when they hit a store nearby.

I'm looking heavily at purchasing a nice gasser in the near future... The debate has been between Weber Genesis and Broil King (not sure what model yet but I would love any recommendations)... So now I guess I need to bring something else into consideration... Weber Genesis, GS2, or Broil King... Weber has a long quality reputation and I like their products. Broil King seems to be getting grand reviews and they are manufactured in my state about an hour and half from where I live as well as possibly some more bang for your buck in regards to features etc...
If a person was going to purchase a Weber would you prod them towards the Genesis or GS2?

Max Good , I know I have read all the reviews... played with some of them on the show room floor... still a little undecided if I was to go with a BK what model I would want... Still torn between a Weber and a BK... decisions decisions....
-
billg71 , the closeout pricing ... especially if they dump the prices down a little more will make it extremely hard to beat... I've had my eye on the BKs though and am somewhat impressed by them. Great friend of mine has one and really seems to like it and he is pretty serious about stuff he buys.
