    Weber Summit Gold burner mod?

I recently acquired a 2004 Weber Summit Gold. I have read a few reviews on these and the only complaint I found was that the burners dont run hot enough to get a good sear. These have tune-able burner tubes and I was wondering if anyone has changed/ modified the jets to get more gas for a hotter flame. I plan on using a cast iron griddle for a searing station. I dont know how hot it will get as I am still waiting on the new burners.

Rateighty-eight, Max Good may be out of pocket for a couple days if he doesn't respond to this anytime soon.

The factory nozzles are .035 and I was thinking about going with .040 on the 2 burners for the sear station.

Don't know about the 2004 model but the 470 I tested a few years ago got plenty hot even without using the sear station.

The new burners and spark kit are setting on my front porch now. I will put it together and crank it up and see what the IR gun reads. I have thought about removing the flavor bars and top grate and moving the griddle closer to the burner.

With all 6 new burners and the smoker box burner on high, I am sure it will get hot enough to sear. I got scared when the gauge showed 800+ and turned 4 of the burners off. I left the 2 under the griddle on high and will let everything settle out and see what the temp does. Everything works except the igniter for the side burner(didnt come withe the kit).

It will get plenty hot enough to burn off all the crud. All the junk on the grates and flavor bars cooked off real nice. I will finish cleaning them with a scuff pad. Running a solid 500 with only the burners under the griddle and smoker box on high. This should be a steak cooking SOB. Next test is to see what it takes to do a low and slow with the smoker going.

Looks like 225 (at 90Ta) is smoke box burner on low.
