Hello to all,
I just picked up my new Weber Genesis E-325 yesterday, assembled by Lowes. Got it home and situated and then went to start it up. I heard something clicking but couldn't figure out what is was until I got zapped re
aching around behind the front panel! Turns out the white wire set that go from the ignitor assembly to the knobs looked like they had been gnawed off and were touching metal. Anyways, I called Weber service and they are sending a new ignitor assembly but in the meantime I want to use my new grill.
I know how to manually light it but it's the loose wires connected to the ignitor that concern me; I was thinking that to ensure the wire ends don't touch anything and zap me again, I could tape them together at the broken ends with electrical tape. Not being an electrician, is that a safe thing to do? Should I tape the end of each one separately?
I'm hoping that since the wires are coated with something plastic already, that electrical tape will be okay in a grill and not melt from the heat?
I've never run into this problem before. My last Weber grill with an ignitor was purchased in 2013 I think, when they came out with front mount controls. This is my Mother's Day present to me so its killing me to let it sit and use the charcoal kettle instead.
My husband, who used to be so handy, has dementia and can't remember things like that anymore so I am learning to handle them on my own. I just don't trust Google for advice on things that can hurt you if done incorrectly.
Thanks for any advice! Terri
