    Weber Wok Shout Out

A couple months ago I got a New Weber Genesis 3 burner gasser with a Sear Burner to replace my 2002 Weber Gasser. With the New Gasser I purchased a Weber Wok Kit. It works great when cooking for two.If anyone is considering a Wok setup like this, you won't be disappointed. I've done Stir Frys a few times now and it works a little better each time.

It doesn't have a 2 foot long handle, how can you reliably get true 'wok style'?

Looks like a great setup. Is the wok cast iron?

Yes, it's a Weber CI Wok.

Skip i’ve read things online that newer Weber gassers are not made as well as in the past. What do you think of your new one? Mine is coming up on 20 years old and may need to be replaced.

Skip Great looking grill, and I was wondering how that wok kit worked. Makes sense it is over the after burner aka sear burner!

DrJimmy2112 I can say that the Weber Genesis II E410 4 burner grill I bought in 2019 is NOT the quality of the Weber Genesis Silver A 2 burner grill I have, which was new in 2002. Mostly the quality of the cart. The new grills are all assembled from stamped steel parts that are only strong once assembed. A million steps. Back in the early 2000's, the cart was tubular steel and assembled in about 5 minutes. Weber advertised "10 minute assembly" back then on the box the grills came in! The lid of the newer Genesis grills are much thinner metal, but double walled, versus a single thicker porcelain coated steel on the old US made Genesis. The body of both is cast aluminum.

They have moved to all stainless for flavorizer bars and other items inside on the newest round of Genesis grills. When I made a warranty claim on my 2019 grill last year, Weber sent me all stainless flavorizer bars, and a replacement stainless warming rack, at no cost to me. The original flavorizer bars on the newer grill were porcelain coated steel, which burned through after 5-6 years. The burners on the 2019 Genesis still are going strong.

Thank you for the detailed report, much appreciated. Yes, I burned through those porcelain coated flavor bars a few times. Mine is that strange Genesis that had the burners going the wrong way, left to right.

DrJimmy2112 yes my 2002 Genesis has the left to right burners. You really can’t do indirect well on the old Weber gas grills. That is the biggest change with the newer ones.

DrJimmy2112 I would rate the build quality on my Weber Genesis SP-E-335 satisfactory for what I paid. I did make sure I got the SS grates and I wanted the Sear Burner. I know there are higher quality gassers out there but most are all SS and I didn't want a SS Grill Body. My MAK Pellet Grill has a SS Body and it seems I'm cleaning the outside sides often where the heat escapes...it's the only thing I don't like about the MAK. As far as the Weber goes I'd buy one just like it again. My old gasser was a 2002 Weber Silver B which still worked great and I gave to a neighbor.

Looks cool. Of course it would be a little better each time as you deeper season your wok. A little tip, don't "crowd" your wok.

Good point on crowding the Wok. Ask how I know about that one.

Nice one Skip! Any chance you know the diameter of the opening that the wok sits in? I've already got a wok I like, and the Weber site doesn't appear to spell out that dimension.

              That's awesome, thanks!

Mister C the opening the Wok sets in is about 10.25". The problem I have with my Carbon Steel Wok in the Weber Ring is the Flavorizer Bars are too close so the CS Wok sits on them. I'm not sure removing the Flavorizer Bars is a good idea or if it would even work. A Regular Wok Ring on top of the Grilling Grates with the Wok on top might work just fine though.

Thanks for doing this! I see what you mean - my wok is pretty large with a round bottom, I'll check how much it will hang down given the ring dimensions. I wouldn't have a problem with it sitting right above it but touching might not be great.

Kind of weird that a Weber wok has that problem? Surely that's not by design?

Mister C my "Weber Cast Iron Wok" fits perfectly. It's my "Carbon Steel Wok with a round bottom" that needs to sit on top of the Regular Grilling Grates.

Ah, okay. Just checked mine to see and it looks like it would hang down about 1.5" below the ring. Pretty imprecise measurement though. Perhaps I'll have to buy one and test it out for science.

              Thanks again
