I also have an old Silver B that i mostly use for hot and fast/direct cooking. (My 22" kettle is my preferred device for 2 zone)
This past weekend I decided to cook prime rib roast for Father's Day at my dad's house. He also has an old Silver B and it's his only grill. So I rigged up this new expanded upper grate. I put the rib roast on the upper grate with a drip/gravy pan under it. Put the front burner on low and bam! perfect 225 2-zone. Once ready I removed the drip pan, cranked the burners to high and seared it to finish. I wish I had taken some pictures of the cook, but here is the rack. It's just 2 regular grates hose clamped together via some rod. I had to cut the ears and 1 row off one of the grates.
The primary reason I made this rack was to get increased clearance for indirect setup with a drip/water pan under it.
