I am considering purchasing the top of line smart-enabled Summit with what appears to be some kind of high-tech temp control. There is very little info on the Weber site about how it actually works. Can anybody describe the burner control functions? It seems to be more than just analog high/low burner control. Can you actually set a desired temp for the grill and it will reach/hold that temp? It also appears to monitor temp across the entire surface of the grill. Is that real?

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I would love to know this too. From what I can find online, the Smart technology in the newer Summit appears to have true thermostatic control of each burner, AND even can sense when a burner fails to ignite. It also includes a top down broiler burner that can be raised and lowered, used for rotisserie or top-down steakhouse searing. From the description this seems a LOT different than the "smart" technology used in some of the Genesis models, which is really just integration of the Weber Connect to let you plug in probes that are inserted into the meat.

Thanks. All of this I am wondering about. I suppose we may have to actually find somebody who owns one! Probably not a whole lot of them out there at a $5,000+ price point. But I am outfitting a brand new backyard in a brand new home. If this Summit does everything they say then it may save me from buying multiple grills. Maybe. If it works. LOL

jfmorris ... Have you seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0kzMM5fFfM
If it works nearly as good as they claim then I'm pretty impressed. I may buy this.

Max Good … I’ll buy one. You can come to my house to review it and cook a meal for us in the process. Entirely serious.Originally posted by Max Good View PostHoping to do a full review soon. I saw these new Summits at Weber events a few times now. As I recall they don't have complete thermostatic control that enables you to set a specific cooking temp, but they do have low to high settings from one to ten. I'll get more detail.

jfmorris Max Good … I found a guy in a FB group who says he got one about a week ago and that it does have thermostatic control. No report from him yet about how well it works but I think that’s what I needed to hear to buy one. If it’s lousy I’ll hope it’s something they can refine over time with software updates.

Indeed I was mistaken. The Summit Smart Grill does have thermostatic controls. There are a few different modes within the grill that allow for a vast array of functionality.
When the grill is turned on and powered up, the user will select a preheat mode. Within that menu is Direct, Indirect, Infrared and manual. For your specific, question, the user will select either direct or indirect. These 2 modes allow for the selection of an exact cooking temperature in 5 degree increments. Once that is selected and confirmed, the grill will ignite and maintain that set temperature throughout the cook.
Manual mode is the mode where the 1-10 number selection comes into play. The number selected will equate to how hot the flame output is. Each of the 5 burners can be controlled in this method, independently of the next.
Infrared controls the top-down IR and can be set to either low or high.
I'm dyin' to get one of these on my deck, but need to clear a few others off first.

I can't ever see myself in a position to spend $5000+ on a gas grill, not if my wife found out anyway!
