Time to replace my 21 yo Genesis 1000 LX

Have rebuilt the insides a couple times. The durawood is still in great shape, as well as the porcelain. But a lot of the painted surfaces a starting to rust and I don't want to deal with rebuilding it again. And thought I would reward myself with the completion of the "shack".

Starting looking at not only the Weber Genesis E-415, but also the Napoleon brand? Prestige 500. Or the Prestige 500 RSIB. I was all set to go Weber as I have nothing but great experiences with my Genesis, but was reading up and stumbled on the Napoleon brand.

I do live in the Chicago area, so the Weber brand is strong - to but it mildly. Any thoughts on these, or any other gassers? I am looking in the $1k - $2k range. And I do NOT necessarily need/want the infrared/side burner of the 500 RSIB. Just something I was considering. I do have grillgrates that I can/will repurpose to the new grill(I hope), for searing purposes.

When it comes to gassers, I'm a Weber guy. Good quality and easy to replace parts or rebuild. I'd have fun looking at other brands, but when it came down to the purchase, it would be a Weber.

    Good hunting....

      Hey Rick,

I’m not familiar with all the different models, but yesterday our Costco had the E-335 on sale for $699.99. I was impressed because it had more features (including a 4th burner) than the model I bought 12-13 years ago for the same price.

      Happy shopping!

Can't speak for the other but I can speak to the Weber brand. Performance, ease of maintenance and getting parts and their customer service are all top notch IMO and experience over the years.

I have the Napoleon Prestige Pro 500 RSIB and it is an excellent grill. It replaced a Weber 2008 Summit that was trashed in a windstorm. However, I think it may be well above your top end of $2K. Napoleon has grills within your price range, but I have no direct experience with those lineups.

I was looking at the Prestige 500 RSIB which is around $1500. I know the Pro version has a bunch of bells & whistles that I might not necessarily need.

The grill portion of the 500 RSIB looks to have most of the same features as the Pro. The Pro’s cart has shelves inside and a slide-out propane holder. That slide out appealed a lot to me as my arthritis and sketchy back appreciate not having to muscle a tank into the inside of the cart.

It is hard to go wrong with Weber gas grill. However, I understand the appeal of Napoleon as a new and shiny brand. The reviews are excellent and we have many happy users. I’d absolutely give Napoleon a hard look especially if it is cost effective versus a Weber and be pretty satisfied with it.

I recently replaced my old Weber Silver from 1990 with a Weber SP-E-325s. It's their 3 burner with the sear, but also came with the stainless grates and a light in the handle.

I didn't really need the light in the handle, but I wanted the stainless grates.

I am very happy with it overall and I think it was right around 900 bucks or so.

But my local Costco is also starting to get them in stock, and the warehouse pricing is great on them.

I've had a Weber gas grill since 2002, and my dad had one in the 1980's when they first moved into making the Genesis. My 2002 Genesis Silver A is still going strong, but relocated to one of my kids houses. I've got a Genesis II E-410 4 burner purchased in January 2019, and it does what I need for gas grilling.

Those Napoleon's ARE super nice. But you already know the Weber will give you 20 years of service, so that's something to consider...

Is this the one with black area with small knobs to the right and flip up table on the left. Because if it is, these seem to have more BTU's than modern grills. Probably has the same BTUs but since it is smaller it seems like more. I got one as a haulaway when I worked at the hardware store and gave it to the EX. I got the new early 300 series that still has the side to side bruners but the big knobs on the right. Just did a major combination of two of those as I had already upgrades to stainless flavorizers and grills along with 2 smoke boxes. So now I have an almost new one.

If yours is the one I think it is you almost could go with the line that is below the Genesis (brain fart on the name) as the are a lot cheaper and just as good as the original genesis. But no cupboard underneath. Best of luck, I am sort of out of date since it has been 6 years since I left Ace.
