    Weber griddle insert question

    Hey everyone!

I have a Weber Genesis II, 4 burner. I see Weber recently introduce a full-size griddle insert instead of the previous ones that would only replace half the racks. My question is: Has anyone used the full griddle insert for the 4 burner models? If so, what are your thoughts? I assume you remove the flavorizer bars, right? Weber's literature says the actual insert is pre-seasoned and rust-resistant. Is this true in your experience? I'm thinking I'd rather spend $300 on the insert instead of buying a freestanding griddle

    Thanks in advance!

I don’t have the Weber insert, so I can’t speak to that one specifically, but I do have the SteelMade flattop for my 3-burner Genesis. I love it, gives you the flexilibty of having both a griddle and a traditional gas grill in one machine. Having the 4 burner, if I were you, I would definitely jump on the Weber insert. That way it’ll be fitted to your grill and give you the extra space with the 4th burner. In terms of rust resistance, I leave mine on the grill pretty much full time, and year round. Rust has been a non-issue for me (keep in mind though, I live in western CO, where rust is an endangered species in general). Again, I can’t speak specifically to the Weber insert, but rust has been a non-issue with my SteelMade.

So I vote go for it!!!

My dad has the griddle insert for his Weber and it is all he uses now. He cooks everything on it, breakfast, lunch, dinner, so he leaves the griddle in and the grates are stored somewhere. I believe he has had it for over a year and keeps it covered, cleaned and seasoned and has not had any issues with rust (he lives at 7200’ in New Mexico - so dry but gets plenty of snow in the winter).

I don’t know if the flavorizer bars are in there or not? Does the manual mention anything about that, or what you read?

But he loves this griddle. Loves the functionality and having just the one grill for what his needs are. I think you you will enjoy it!

Thanks for the insight. I haven't purchased yet, so I'm not sure what the manual might say about the flavorizer. No big deal either way. I was more concerned as to the rust resistance and overall durability. I'm near Cleveland, OH a mile south of Lake Erie so it's plenty humid around here. I just tossed a Char Griller Flat Iron because it rusted like crazy after one season.
