2007 Spirit may be dead, looking at new Genesis

My 2007 Spirit E-310 cracked its crosstube and may be dead unless I can source new burners (out of stock at Weber - anybody know where else might have them?). If I can’t revive it, I was looking at the Genesis S-435, it’s in stock at BBQGuys. How is ordering from them? Don’t want to get it shipped from the big box hardware/electronics stores, don’t think I’ve ever had a good experience getting big ticket items shipped from any of them. BBQGuys any better?

I got my S-335 Special Edition from them last year. No issues at all with the transaction and delivery. And when I ordered Grillgrates (HIGHLY recommended) for it from them there was a mistake in the product listing (old dimensions) and I got grates that were too long (front-to-back) for the new 335. When I contacted them about this they realized the error, refunded my purchase with apologies, and said I didn't need to return them. It took me a while to realize it was possible, but I took ½ inch off of them with a carbide blade on my circular saw—cut through them like butter— and ended up with free Grillgrates. I've since made additional purchases from them.

I bought an EP-330 a few years back from these guys: https://www.acmetools.com

They can be pretty competitive and their customer service has always been great. You might want to have a look for comparison.

While you say you're against big boxes, check costco thus week for their genesis deals. Better prices and package vs other places, typically

Yeah I second grillparts.com, I rebuilt my 2002 Genesis using parts from there before giving it to my daughter when she got married. Sadly, I think all she "grills" is bacon and eggs, with two cast iron skillets on the grill, to keep the mess out of the kitchen, but at least she is doing something on it.

Looks like your crossover tube is only $9.90. A full set of burners includes a crossover tube as well.

I've got the Genesis II E-410, bought in January 2019 - they've since redesigned the Genesis, and while I like the new 2022 redesign better, they sure have gone up a lot. The E-410 retailed for $899 in 2018 and I got it on clearance in January 2019 for $399! Now the most basic Genesis 4 burner is way more than $899. Anyway, back to where I was going. My 2002 Genesis Silver A has much more solid construction than the 2019 Genesis II E-410. Cart, lid, body. All metal on the older grill feels more substantial. I don't know how your Spirit from 2007 compares to the new Genesis, but I would look at them in person and compare.

Sadly I use the new Genesis much less than expected, as I spend more time with charcoal and my flat top (griddle).

Yes, that’s kind of what I’ve been weighing the past few days since I noticed the cracked tube - I’ve had this grill longer than I’ve had my kids and it may sound silly but I am really fond of it, and Weber must have really done something right with it if it could last this long with some TLC. I am confident it could last a couple more years with the replacement parts you guys have directed me towards (thank you again!).

On the other hand, a newer grill with more cooking space/burners/bells/whistles wouldn’t be bad either. I have the space and budget to allow for it, whereas the Spirit was what fit my lifestyle (smaller house, smaller budget!) 15 years ago. I’ve allowed myself to envision having it and I didn’t hate it. PC Richard had some Genesis floor models; I went yesterday and I didn’t instantly think cheap/flimsy (I wouldn’t trust them or HD/Lowe’s to deliver a pizza, which is why I was asking about BBQGuys).

I think I’m leaning towards fixing up my Spirit and having something to grill on until I figure out what I really want.

I think I would fix the Spirit up, especially if all it needs is a set of burner tubes or just the crossover ignition tube. Spend that $1000+ a new Genesis would cost on some other kind of grill that you don't have.

What I consider flimsy is the fact my 2002 Genesis has tubular steel for the cart, and the lid is pretty thick enamel coated steel. The 2019 Genesis frame is made from just angled sheet metal, bolted together for rigidity, and the lid is much thinner metal.

Con't - the newer Genesis has a double walled construction on the lid, versus single walled on the old ones.

One thing I do like with the newer Genesis and Spirit grills is the front to back burner tubes, rather than the left to right ones. If you have a need for a 2 zone setup with indirect on a gas grill, this is much easier to achieve with burners that run front/back rather than left/right. I reverse sear steaks sometimes on the Genesis by turning on 2 burners, and leaving 2 off.

                    Con't last thing I promise!

The 2002 Genesis came out when they advertised "stop watch assembly" in 15 minutes or less. It was literally put a few bolts in the cart, drop the preassembled grill on the cart, and put a couple more bolts in, and done. The new ones are an hour or two with about 50 steps of assembly.

FWIW, Weber is running a $100 off deal on Genesis models at the moment: https://www.weber.com/US/en/gas/gene...3GqM5hU1lky_HQ

Lots of genuine as well as aftermarket parts on Ebay. I am debating what to do with my older Genesis. No point in a new crossover tube if I don't do major work on the bottom of the cabinet which has rusted away. I hate to toss it so I may well just brace it with some metal strut.

Be aware Weber did a MAJOR rework of all models ~5 years ago. I have not used one of the new ones but I was suspicious of such major change. AND, in the past year the Stephenson family sold the comapny public. Not necessarily bad, but again cause for worry. So keeping that Spirit alive might make sense.

PS - use the wber site to get part numbers. In many cases there are mutliple versions (steel versus stainless steel) so get the part number for the better one. Then search that part number on eBay.
