Rusted looking stainless warming rack on Genesis II?

Does anyone else with a Genesis II, which supposedly has a stainless steel warming rack, have the warming rack looking like a pile of rusty metal?

On my old 2002 Genesis Silver A, with a plated steel warming rack, I would replace it with a new cheap one every few years. On the Genesis II, what should be a nice stainless surface that I just use to hold stuff that is done as I temp stuff and remove from the main grate, looks like a big hunk of rust after a couple of years of use. And a replacement is a whopping $50 for the 4 burner Genesis II E-410.

I've tried hitting it with a brush. No dice. Next time I decide to use Easy Off or such on my charcoal grill grates, may toss this one in there with them, but it truly looks rusted - its not caked on grease/gunk.

    Mine is definitely stainless.

What year is your Genesis II? I got mine in January 2019, and it is one of the 2018 models, when they shifted from open cart back to closed cart for the next year, and got rid of all the fancy colors (and the 2 and 6 burner models).

I am wondering if mine is plated steel, or is just heat damaged. I felt like it stayed shiny for a year or two, but it sure looks rusted the past year or two. Might date to when I had that grease fire that warped one end of the grill body...

I'm guessing they used a lower grade of stainless steel such as 304 which is the most common. This grade is susceptible to corrosion. A company can state their product is stainless steel which would be a trues state . I am not certain they would have to state what grade. I know this doesn't help your situation but I hope it may be useful in the future.

I guess that is opposite of what I thought I knew about stainless, which was that 304 is one of the higher grades for both heat and corrosion resistance? I know a lot of newer grills have gone to the cheaper 430 stainless.

My apologies. I miss stated. 304 is the common and typically used. 316 is the superior but I am not certain if this is an offering for grills.

I'm guessing 2019-ish. Closed cart, 3 main burners with sear burner and a side burner.

A lot of suspect stainless made it into circulation in the last few years, intentionally or otherwise...

To bad it isn't like back in the day, heck, even Garth Brooks had a song, "Oh I'm Stainless!!"
