This almost went to the scrap yard!

So I'm an automotive technician by trade, and at the shop we accrue scrap metal at a decent rate. We have a scrap guy that comes by pretty much every day to pick up the stuff, and I usually glance an eye across his trailer to see if he has any propane tanks or anything good that I can turn into more BBQ equipment. So last Monday Im pulling into work and I spot the handle for the lid on this thing poking out over the sideboards of the trailer!!! Click image for larger version

So visually it looked pretty rough, and it does have some rust to it, but it stills rolls quite well, locks into place like it should, and has only a couple minor cracks at the end of the number 1 and 2 burners. The worst part of the thing is the flavorizer bars are completely wiped out, but I got some SS units on the way for 40 bucks ( using the AR link of course ). I think I'm going to call Weber and see if they want to warranty the burners for me. I really wouldn't expect them to, as this was not a grill I purchased from the get go, and it's very obvious that the previous owner performed zero maintenance on the thing ( so sad ). I do however feel a little compelled to inform them that my brother in law and my last boss both have Weber units because of me, and that I personally have 3 Kettles, the big WSM, and a Q3200. Think maybe that's enough to have them warranty me some burners?

Wow! You're definitely one with the skill of fixing things up, awesome score! That would be really neat if they comped you the burners. Score of the year.

From my research, it's a 2009 model, likely a HD or Lowes unit as it's an E-310, cast iron grates and flavorizer bars. But seriously, lit it off after checking for any potential gas leaks at the fittings, seams, hoses, etc., for a bout 45 minutes and burned off all the gunk. Before bringing it home I hit the burner tubes with a wire wheel chucked to an electric grill. From the looks of it I think the previous owner chucked it because of the burners, about 40% of the holes on the outside edges were blocked up due to rust, but a quick hit with the wire wheel opened them up easily.
This is the only grill I've brought home that my wife actually agreed with

PRESTON, I agree with Huskee You Hit The Mother Load! I would definitely talk to Weber, with the number of their products You own and the number of family and friends you have influenced as a former Sales Mgr. (Different Product), I would not have a compunction to at least providing bare minimum a price reduction on Parts! Eat Well and Prosper! Dan

You can't go wrong with Weber, even in this case.

Well, no dice on the warranty burners. I didn't really push the issue, as I feel funny about doing such things, and I told the truth about how I was not the original purchaser, nor was I given it as a gift. I straight up told Stella ( the rep ) that I saved it from the scrap yard. It does say in the warranty that the warranty is extended to the original purchaser. Heck, it was worth a shot. The new burner assembly shipped to me straight from them was only about 50 bucks though, so it's all good. I would have thought they were more than that. So between some new burners and flavorizer bars, I'll be in it for less than a hundred bucks. Now the question is, stick with the cast iron grates and clean them up more, or just get some SS units? OR, maybe just get some Grillgrates, as I have wanted to try those bad boys out. OR some combination, that allows me to get a griddle insert. Did ham and eggs in a cast iron skillet on the grill yesterday morning. Man, there's something about frying up some ham!!!

Keep the cast iron grates and go with the Grill Grates. I have 3 of the 13.75 panels and a 13.75 griddle. They are all interlocked together and I love them. I use them on my Weber kettles as well and they work really good keeping down the flare ups. Which in my opinion is worth the cost of them alone not to mention the killer food they have help me produce. They have greatly expanded and revived my Charbroil gas grill.
