Want to cook better barbecue? Keep a log of your previous cooks and learn from them. In your log, include the meat, its weight, how you prepped it, what seasonings you used, the cooker and ambient air temperatures, the wood used, and how much. Here's the log that Meathead uses. Download it as a pdf or Excel copy.
On the back of the Cooking Log I would write down my plan or steps for the cook.
I also judge my cook on a scale from 1-10 in the areas of appearance, aroma, taste and doneness, tenderness and texture, juiciness.
I have them for my Weber Spirit and prefer them to the stock cast iron grates. I use the flat side almost exclusively. When I upgraded to a Blaze grill I found that the GrillGrates fit it as well. But in the end, I decided with the hotter more capable Blaze grill I didn't get as much benefit from using them on the Blaze so they stayed with the Weber Spirit and it moved out to my cabin.

I had used Grillgrates on my previous gasser for years and when it came time to replace it I got a Genesis II SE-335 a couple of months ago. The old grill grates were too small in both dimensions to fit, so I decided to give the 9mm stainless steel grates it came with a try...
I ordered the Grillgrates for it today. Can't wait.
