dryer sheets work pretty good to for rodents btw, more so for winter storage.

yeah, these cats have been encouraged to jump on cars by their owners, and have damaged both of our cars now with scratches. I told the owners and they went and got ANOTHER cat. I love animals, but there's a line that has been crossed.

ItsAllGoneToTheDogs - If you catch them on video you can take the owners to small claims court. At the minimum, report them to animal control and have the vermin trapped. I want to be a good neighbor, but I don't want their nasty, parasite spreading animals on my property.

Having a couple of cats or hawks in the neighborhood is always a good way to cut down on the rodent population.

Here you go FireMan this one is actively involved in squirrel control. It’s pictured with the 410 ammo I make from 444 Marlin brass. Click image for larger version

            Par-cooking rodents. What a thought.

Wood Ducks. They eat the crap out of those things.

One time I opened the lid and saw a mouse. So I hit the jets and the sucker started to dance. Then I shut it off because I didn't want to clean his burnt little carcass out of there. He took off like he had someplace to be and I have never seen evidence of mice in there again. However, adding that wire screen is still on my list. I also need to add it around the perimeter of the outdoor kitchen. I wish I had done it before I built the cabinets.

I had this problem with my Blackstone griddle a couple of years ago. I made the mistake of forgetting to take the roll of paper towels off the paper towel holder before putting the cover on. Next time I opened it up, there was a big nest made of shredded paper towels right there on the griddle surface. So I cleaned it out, spread newspaper over the whole surface, and set 4 mousetraps on it. It took a few days of cleaned off mousetraps, but I GOT EEM! And the others have stayed away.

Oh CRAP. I have had the cover on my Blackstone for a couple of months... and I bet you a dollar I didn't take the damned paper towels out. Let's hope this isn't a prophetic story. Sheisse, I never considered that possibility!

Dang, Jerod, you stole my thunder! Clearly, great minds think alike.

I used the same approach on my Genesis II last summer to keep the stinkin' squirrels out. I did a couple other things too:
          • Used a 1 inch wide aluminum bar across the top of each side and wound the mesh around it to close the space between the two cabinet frame posts and the grill well.
          • In addition to the sides and back, I sealed up the space under the front control panel.
          • When it got colder, I had to close up two interior gaps where mice were getting in through the bottom (they made a nice warm home in my heat-proof gloves)!
See attached photos. If anyone is interested, I have a "how-to" writeup with a series of detailed photos. Just message me here if you want them.

Wow, nice job. You really channeled your inner squirrel/mouse to eliminate all the loopholes in the design. You have a lot of frustrated rodents hanging around, I imagine.

Sweeeeetness! Thankfully I just have mesopredators.

If my Genesis II was not the open cart design, I would try to seal it up with some chicken wire like you guys, but that is impractical with the wide open cart. Thankfully, I have yet to find rats or possums under the Genesis II like I had happen with my old Genesis Silver A. Good Lord, I had rats in the grease pan all the time, and a possum sleeping under the cover on top of the propane tank one time.

Yeah, the critters love the grease pan! The varmint-proofing job on my Weber works so well that I now store the drop bucket from my pellet smoker in there!

MeyerCinNC I have a galvanized 2 gallon bucket that sits under my offset, and when not being used for grease collection I use it for ashes when cleaning out the grills. Haven't seen any varmints diving into it yet - but I dump the grease after each cook, unlike the pan on the Genesis which kinda sits out of sight, out of mind, and hopefully I think to check it before it overflows...
