dang, wish they would have done a slightly smaller model too. I'm sure it's in the works pending popularity. I really wanted the SS blackstone but they were discontinued, then I've been holding out for a camp chef sale (never saw one). This has everything I want other than it's a touch too big. Looks like a fantastic value to compete with the blackstone deluxe or professional or whatever the higher end models at wally world are called.

It looks like a good product if you're just looking for a griddle. I'm a bit perplexed on why the lid is so short. It pretty much takes away any option to use it as a gasser for two zone cooks of anything thicker than a burger. Don't think a spatchcocked chicken would fit under there.

BruceB , I also immediately thought the lid precluded grilling anything to big. My assumption would be that they are emphasizing the griddle aspect. With the recent kitchen setup they introduced, my guess is they are marketing this to people who will mount the SB and one of these in the kitchen setup, and you are supposed to use the SB for anything that won't fit in the Primate.
I already posted in the other thread on this subject that I might be interested. I want a griddle, and while I have a Weber Genesis gasser, I have the the house we live in most of the time, and the house we use to getaway, and will eventually retire to. 5 years before we move there, and all the grills and smokers live together. So, maybe I "need" one of these!

To be honest, I think the flat lid is a mistake, too. I'd love to see them make a properly dome-shaped lid (like Weber and others) as an alternative ... and maybe offer a way to mount a rotisserie also.

I think the low lid is the point, it's a griddle mainly, gas grill second. Many griddles don't have lids, this does = bonus. Griddle year round = bonus! Not really designed to grill a turkey. Regardless, for me personally it's actually a perk and not a bad thing.

The idea behind the grill was not to compete with anyone else, but to build something people had been requesting. Then, do it with some class. The SS parts and build quality makes it worth the $800 price tag!

I watched the video - this is going to really be a hot item (no pun intended). Thank goodness I just made my griddle purchase a couple of months ago. This price point looks better than perfect for what you get but would have gotten me killed by my wife.

I also see it as competition but very good competition. If it is a griddle and there are other brand griddles on the market than one would need to weigh the pro's and cons. .In my post earlier, I was not degrading the product at all especially once I realized what it is intended to be. I did note that the square inches compared to others is less and for me that would be a deal breaker.

DavidNorcross - I agree with what you wrote. I actually sold my Weber to a buddy to buy a Blackstone 36 inch. I absolutely love it. I love it so much so, I bought my kid the 22†for Christmas. I actually love the surface area I have. I felt I never gave my gas grill a fair shot. If I had this choice I really would have been befuddled.

Personally, if I wanted a gas grill, this would probably be the one I'd get. It is a gas grill and a griddle so bonus. Plus, for the food I'd be doing on this Primate (breakfast, steaks, burgers, hot dogs etc.) the lid is probably a nice plus. Anything large (butts, briskets, chicken, turkey etc.) you'd want to do over charcoal or pellets anyway.

Agree but how hard would it have been to add 6-8 inches to the lid. Then there would be no cons. It would be a full grill and griddle. Just my thoughts.
