Alright, for any nerds out there, I removed about 15-20 screws really quick over lunch and took some pics of some of the internals, doesn't look too complicated, but after looking my best guess is both of the internal jets appear to just be for ignition, I'd have to tear the valve apart to see if they only open when the button is pushed down or not and if the earlier picture showing flames concentrated there is just airflow catching them there or LP still coming through them. You do hold the button down for 15 seconds. It appears to me it's all up to the pressure to push the gas to the outside of the panel. This would explain the rear vs front difference, but doesn't explain the right vs left.

I had that one saved on my wish list. I went back to remove it after seeing the problems you had and it shows it’s not available. I figured there was no way it was good for the price. My single-size version made by Northfire costed more even on sale.
