I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct channel or not. If not, please let me know or move accordingly. I always try to be prepared for any situation and have looked closely at purchasing a single butane burner. This would be helpful for cooking outdoors, but in the event there is a need can they be used indoors? I have read in many places it is ok but there are others who say no. The manufacturers of these devices are non commital at best. Thoughts?

Broil King Smoke
Weber Kettle 26
Grilla Pellet smoker
Capital 40 natural gas
Napoleon Pro 22 kettle
Thermometer:
Maverick 733
Thermapen (ok..4 thermapens)
Thermo works DOT (or two)
Fireboard (probably my favourite)
Thermworks Smoke (or two)
Accessories:
SnS (original, plus and XL)

Probably safe enough indoors or out, but I don’t think I would use it much. Might be able to resist the MCS pull on this one.

It is all about ventilation and carbon monoxide (CO). I have a multi-fuel backpacking stove that will work with any liquid fuel. I used it inside after a hurricane with no problems and no fears. I only used it sparingly and I was always aware of the risk.
If your considering this primarily as an emergency backup, consider the availability of the fuel and if the unit is limited to a single fuel cartridge type/brand.

We have owned one for probably 10 years. They are really light weight and convenient to cook or keep something hot especially if you travel to pot lucks or events where you need to keep something like soups or other dishes hot. The butane canisters seem to last a good while and are available at some of the big box stores. Should be as safe as any gas appliance indoors.

I own two of them! I take them when ever tI am cooking for an event. I love to use them for frying in a dutch oven or as a side burner at our family events when I have the kamados going. As other have said, they are light weight, packable and durable. I have had mine for over ten years.

I do remember a post here about someone using a similar device to light their chimney of charcoal. If I remember correctly it wasn't a good idea.

They are used indoors all the time. That omelet station at a Sunday brunch? Probably using butane single burners. Korean BBQ place? Certainly using a butane burner. Restaurants like them because they are enclosed and portable. No need to run gas lines, no need for external propane tanks.
Also many homes (and every commercial kitchen) uses gas.
I have 2 at my home. They are part of my hurricane hit but also get used for table top cooking. Most recently Korean BBQ.
