    Butane Burner

I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct channel or not. If not, please let me know or move accordingly. I always try to be prepared for any situation and have looked closely at purchasing a single butane burner. This would be helpful for cooking outdoors, but in the event there is a need can they be used indoors? I have read in many places it is ok but there are others who say no. The manufacturers of these devices are non commital at best. Thoughts?

With a high heat output of 8,000 BTUs, this portable butane range with a solid brass burner is perfect for off-site cooking applications, outdoor catering events, and omelet stations where electricity may not be readily available. It features a manual control knob to increase or decrease the flame, giving it an adjustable heat range (from boil to simmer), as well as a high-impact hard plastic black carrying case for easy transportation. The burner is easily removed, making cleaning a breeze after your event.Brass burners are an exceptional option for commercial settings! This burner's brass construction is corrosion resistant and stands up to high heat temperatures, providing you with a long-lasting, durable product that resists warping over time. Plus, it also provides superior heat retention to distribute heat more evenly to your cookware, thus ensuring your foods are fully cooked throughout. For superior safety, this portable butane range features a lock feature that locks the butane canister in place, allowing the range to ignite; if the lock is not in place, it will not ignite. Butane range can only be used in 30+ degrees Fahrenheit temperatures. Butane cartridge sold separately.Overall Dimensions: Width: 14" Depth: 12" Height: 4" Cooking Surface Dimensions: Width: 8" Depth: 8"

Probably safe enough indoors or out, but I don’t think I would use it much. Might be able to resist the MCS pull on this one.

It is all about ventilation and carbon monoxide (CO). I have a multi-fuel backpacking stove that will work with any liquid fuel. I used it inside after a hurricane with no problems and no fears. I only used it sparingly and I was always aware of the risk.

If your considering this primarily as an emergency backup, consider the availability of the fuel and if the unit is limited to a single fuel cartridge type/brand.

We have owned one for probably 10 years. They are really light weight and convenient to cook or keep something hot especially if you travel to pot lucks or events where you need to keep something like soups or other dishes hot. The butane canisters seem to last a good while and are available at some of the big box stores. Should be as safe as any gas appliance indoors.

gas stove tops require a hood venting to the outside.

I own two of them! I take them when ever tI am cooking for an event. I love to use them for frying in a dutch oven or as a side burner at our family events when I have the kamados going. As other have said, they are light weight, packable and durable. I have had mine for over ten years.

I do remember a post here about someone using a similar device to light their chimney of charcoal. If I remember correctly it wasn't a good idea.

They are used indoors all the time. That omelet station at a Sunday brunch? Probably using butane single burners. Korean BBQ place? Certainly using a butane burner. Restaurants like them because they are enclosed and portable. No need to run gas lines, no need for external propane tanks.

Also many homes (and every commercial kitchen) uses gas.

I have 2 at my home. They are part of my hurricane hit but also get used for table top cooking. Most recently Korean BBQ.

I have several and have used them indoors so I certainly hope so! Maybe get yourself a carbon monoxide detector to go along with it?
