    MHP Infrared Side Burner?

I'm getting ready to order a new gas grill for home use here in southwest Florida. The wheels fell off my 8-year-old Weber, literally, from rust. I've settled on the MHP WNK4 head on an aluminum open cart with tank ring. My other consideration is to add the stunningly expensive SearMagic side infrared burner.

Let's get one thing out of the way - I know it is really expensive ($600). But, I do a lot of reverse sear and sous vide, and this would be a lot more convenient than what I do now, which is a cast iron skillet on a turkey burner. I have a little "found money" that I could use for this purchase without missing a meal.

Anyone have any experience with this accessory from MHP?

    Do not, unfortunately. Welcome!

I do not. Turkey burner. Nice! I can see the hassle though.

I have experience with CI on the turkey burner. I miss being able to say 'turn of the century' and knowing which century I'm talking about - got a Griswold big oval pot that was used for hams back in the day. Heat that sucker up till it glows, and turn and sear away. Cost a lot less than a car payment but can't say it ain't fun.

You're out of me league with that setup.

I tryin to figure this out. 5 big ones for an IR side burner? Have you looked at a Napoleon with their IR side burner? Don’t want to be a homey, but it’s a lot less money for the whole kit & kaboodle, & still quality.

No local dealer for Napoleon. Plus, one of the most important features is that the entire unit, including cart, be aluminum. Corrosion is an issue here. Total cost for a MHP WNK4DD plus the IR burner is $1,600. I’ve not found a match in the Napoleon line. And I won’t buy one unless I can see it in person.

Don’t blame ya, I wanted to see it to. That’s what clinched for me. Have no idea what kind of corrosion you must have. You say southwest so you are out of the path, that’s good. 🕶

Hi Fireman - I've been doing some research on Napoleon products. As you say, if I'm willing to give up the all-aluminum construction, I can get a product (500RSIP in stainless) with both systems for less money. But, there is no local dealer. In your opinion, where does Napoleon stack up in the grill hierarchy? Seems to get generally good reviews. Any info would be helpful.
                    Thanks

rkcook1 I relied heavily on Max Good ‘s assessment in comparing this with others in the same niche. With some there was small problems, others slight deficiencies. I had it narrowed down to two. To be honest I don’t remember what the other one was, but it was not a Weber. What sold me was the stainless & the IR side burner. I had no idea what I was getting into. The grill runs great & it is beautiful. BUT, the IR side-burner is kick ash! It is amazing & a lot of fun. Gee I love playing with Fire! I know this may sound Hokies, but so be it. As far as customer service, I couldn’t tell you, I’ve had no problems. From the videos of the company they appear stand-up. My only advantage over you is, I got to see it & touch it. Amazingly, this small town that I am in has a dealer that has quite a selection of grills, so I was able to compare in appearance at least. This store also did not have any cheap merchandise. The least expensive was the Webers. What I would call a higher end department. I don’t know if this is any help. If you have any questions feel free to ask & I will try my best to answer them. 🕶
