    Tried something new tonight...

I have a somewhat guilty admission to make....

over the last few weeks I tested the waters and kinda tried to sell one of my grills.....

I know I know I know. Blasphemy. But ever since finding the pit, and going back to charcoal on what became: my WSCG, 22" Kettle, and PBC I just havent used my gasser (Weber Genesis, 300 series)....for almost 2 years. So I put it up well below what others were asking. My plan was to turn the sale of the grill into a 36" Blackstone, if I could freaking find one! well, all my price did was bring out the lowballers. so after a couple weeks of declining offers, I let my ad expire.....

    and then it appeared...

I know it's probably been around forever, but I hadn't seen Meathead's post about frying on the gas grill. but then I did see it. as luck would have it, earlier this spring I snagged a lodge CI pot when it was on sale (with the intention of putting it to chili duty later this season). So I had all the pieces.

Tonight I put them to work. File Meathead's frying idea under "duh." Why the hell didnt I think of this sooner! It was so easy! I've never made Fried chicken before. Never even thought to try onion rings. dang it if they didnt both turn out awesome...perhaps the best I've ever tasted(the rings definitely were!)?

If you havent done this yet...do it. like tomorrow.

Great to hear that you gave this a try! It looks and sounds like it was a big hit. I remember talking to Meathead about this a while back, and that very same thing occurred to me......."Why didn't I think of that?!"

it's so mindlessly obvious! I've darn near bought a dedicated turkey fryer about 1000 times but never pulled the trigger due to the limited uses I thought it'd get compared to storing the stuff. little did I know I had it all here the whole time.

Congrats on discovering this way to fry. Da food looks great.

First, try cutting the onion into petals - you can get more in the hot oil that way.
Second, try this recipe for french fries. It works really well on the stove, and I bet it works even better on a gas grill.

Thanks for trying it. NOW. Is there anybody out there who has had REAL Nashville Hot Chicken from Princes or Hatties? Can you taste my recipe and let me know how you think it compares? Honest eval, please.

I'm with you - I use my Genesis a lot less than charcoal and wood lately, even with Grillgrates on my Genesis. Mostly my kids use it as none of them want to hassle with charcoal. My biggest use is for smash burgers on upside down grillgrates. The recent articles on frying on the grill have me rethinking getting rid of mine as well.

I'm all over frying outside and keeping the mess out of the kitchen, and that Nashville Hot chicken recipe certainly caught my eye!

My ex got the Weber but that looks fantastic. I love me some fried chix. Rings too!!

            I despise low ballers!
            nice work.
