Living in Ontario, Canada I bought a Broil King Keg only 6 years ago that is starting to fall apart on me and is looking old and tired, although it still cooks. Previously I had a Weber that lasted me 15 years with the addition of burners to get to that age. So, I am looking at Weber again but read that the Genesis II series is under-powered? There is only the 2 of us so I am looking for a 3 burner as I like indirect cooking but want to sear also. I noticed that alot of the new Webers do not have a side burner, is this due to efficiency reasons? Should I invest in a 3 burner with a portable cassette burner as I like to cook outside. Any advice would be helpful. Many thanks

Check out Napoleon grills ("Canadian Weber"). Their gas lineup is more extensive than Weber, and you might get a little better deal on the "local" product. There's several reviewed on amazingribs, all with the "Best Value" award.

Thanks. Yes I have called Broil King Customer Service but its not just a couple of things. It needs to be replaced and they aren't willing to do that. If it was a few parts they would. I am not sure if it was your good self Max but someone mentioned the Genesis II being underpowered? I like the option of the Igrill3 ready. The other option is for me to look at Napolean here in Canada. I saw that AmazingRibs (reference Bruce54 comment above)gave them a good review with the searing station.

I have had a Signet model Broil King for nearly two years now and it the best gas grill I have owned to date. I have owned several grills in my lifetime and the quality and price of this grill beats Weber hands down. In my opinion the quality of the Weber went away when the Chinese started the manufacturing. I would pit the Broil King against any other out there.

And you could also take a look at the Saber grills. I happen to like infrared for gassers. http://amazingribs.com/bbq_equipment...r_target_id=75

I would read all of the reviews that Max has done. There are many options depending on your budget. I like the way the Napoleon grill has a searing station that is outside of the main firebox. I have avoided searing stations inside the fire box because they take up so much real estate, and you are supposed to leave the top open when you use it.

Green Mountain Grill - Jim Bowie
(I've never regretted having too much grate space).
Weber Genesis Gas grill
Weber Kettle grills x 2
To add a bit to what Inky mentioned about Webers being underpowered I also heard that means they are easier to be blown out. I live in Western Kansas where wind is assuredly an issue. All of this being said I'm a Weber guy. I've had precisely 2 gas grills in 25 years - both Webers. This last one has only lasted 10 years, however, it has been moved twice, taken to parties, and lived without cover for the last 4 years (lost two covers to wind). Wondering if I would be better served going with a Summit instead of another Genesis or should I do a different brand entirely. I'm a bit of grill addict having 3 Weber kettles, Weber Smoker and a Green Mountain Grill. Quite frankly I use the gas grill to complete the reverse sear after cooking on the GMG. Thanks in advance for your input.

I am a Weber guy also, I had 5 Genesis grills 4 years ago am now down to 3, I have found that if you can find the ones with 13 flavorizer bars they work the best for the older models. I usually find them in the paper or on Craig's list for under $75.00 and will revamp them as parts are readily available, There is a guy here in Cali that makes the grills out of 1/4 in. SS round stock and the flavorizer bars out of heavier gauge SS than what you can get after market and they are cheaper. For reverse sear I will take either the grill or my Grill Grates and put them on top of the flavorizer bars for more heat and it works well. I have a parts list with factory # for the older models if that helps you help. Happy hunting with what ever you get

We have been using a Napelon natural gas grill for about 8 years now with no issues, we have a two burner model with a back burner and a side burner and we have been very pleased with it. After reading this forum I checked the thermometer in the lid against an oven thermometer and found it to be accurate as well. I like the option of being able to buy the pan and use charcoal as dual fuel grill.

I had a Spirit 2-burner for years, upgraded to an S-330 for more area. The Spirit worked well, I replaced the warming grate a couple times, the flavorizer bars and the ignitor once. My friend is still using it, I guess it's about 10 years old now. For the money it's hard to beat.

I bought my first gas grill last year, mainly based on the info on this site. I picked the Weber Genesis with a sear burner, and got what seem to be one of the last of the old design. Very happy with it. The new design does not see like a good value to me. If I were looking this year I be looking at Napoleon, maybe Saber. That Blaze grill they are giving out as on of the monthly prizes looks pretty great, but it's twice the money.
