Hello, just joined, I have an old I have an older Kalamazoo Grill, Model SE3, built 6/7/1999 I just inherited from my dad. I'm wanting to restore it. He replaced the main burner about ten years ago for 800 bucks, but it has been sitting unused for many years. I contacted Kalamazoo, but they just want to sell me a couple thousand dollars of parts. Kalamazoo said I should buy a stainless steel grate and put on ceramic briquettes on the lower level. I have the main grill plate in great condition, but there is nothing with it for the lower rung, so trying to figure out what to do. I also am wanting input on what to replace the broken temperature gauge with, Kalamazoo wanted a few hundred dollars. So any suggestions of what type of plate to buy or briquettes if that is the best option. The burner puts out a ton of flame and it isn't super even so looking to get better heat distribution. Thanks for the help.

Kalamazoo equipment may be the most expensive outdoor cooking equipment on the market (Twin Eagle is close but not quite as much) so any components are going to be a premium price as well. Most of it is proprietary so finding "generic" replacement parts could be a chore if not futile. The temperature gauge looks to be a screw on probe style so you probably can replace that with a generic. All you need do is measure the hole size and probe length and then go comparison shopping. Tel Tru thermometers have the best accuracy reputation for the bimetallic type it appears you have there. There is also the Protemp S1 digital thermometer with wifi as an electronic alternative.
