My 10 year old Charbroil Grill2Go (photo attached from the day I got it) mini gasser is in need of replacement. The regulator valve assembly is failing and is a proprietary design. Charbroil, or anybody else, seems to never have them in stock and even if they did, the price is nearly what I paid for the whole grill.
I have mostly loved the grill, use it quite often, and would just get another one. BUT the more recent reviews on it are not great and the most frequent complaints are for bad regulators. And the one complaint I’ve had is poor temperature control. The thing has two temps. Blazing hot and nuclear meltdown. I learned how to manage that though.
Anyway, I looked over the small units on the free side. Not much there in the “mini” class. I have a nice cart for it so I don’t need or want a new one with a cart.
Weber "Q" Series! I bought one for my daughter (apartment dweller). I like it so much I bought one for myself to go along with my PK 360, Ooni pizza oven, and electric smoker. You won't be dissapointed!
Also, Pk Grills has an accessory called "littlemore" grid that works as an upper shelf that just fits ( with a little finagalling) in the Weber grill giving you some extra space and keeps proteins further from the flame. Just sayin".
Yes I have seen that. What I need is a small, reliable gasser. It’s just me and the wifey. I have a big Weber Genesis gasser. But it’s too much to heat up for just a couple burgers or brats.
I have had that grill for over 10 years. I agree the temp settings are terrible but I learned how to work around that. The grill is bullet proof and I have loved it. Would buy another if needed. Have several friends with the Q 1200 and they like that one. Just wish Charbroil would get a regulator that worked properly. Do not understand why they don't do that.
Mine turned 10 years old a couple months ago. Unless I come up with an alternative soon, I’ll probably just get another one in spite of the bad regulator. The Weber Q1200 would be nice but it’s over twice the cost of the Charbroil Grill2Go.
Well I took a chance and went with the Weber Q1200. I was able to see one in action and it seemed to have a regulator that actually had a temperature range instead of full blast only. So we’ll see. 🤷♂️🤞
I used to have a mini gasser that ran on the 1 pound cylinders, but it was NOT Weber, and it rusted out just sitting on a shelf in a backyard shed. Not exposed to moisture, just Alabama humidity. I used to use it to grill on the shore when I had a boat. We would beach the boat and I would toss down burgers or hotdogs on the little gasser on the shore. Great eats when you've been skiing and swimming all day!
Would be interested in hearing how you like it. I’d like to get my daughter a small grill for her apartment, not sure if that’s allowed, so have to figure that out, but a small easy to use grill for her would be fun for her to continue growing with her cooking!
Jfrosty27 I think you’ll like it. I had a Q1200 for a while and I don’t even remember exactly why I got rid of it. I think because the Traveler came out and I didn’t have to be concerned with having a place to set that when we rented cabins or VRBOs. I have a Q2800N+ at the camper now and it’s not amazing, but quite alright. I think I had unrealistic expectations of its dual burner capabilities hoping to get dual zone out of a tabletop grill.
I was asked for pics. This is all I have so far. I will report my experience with it as I go.
But initial impression is that it’s a typical Weber high quality product. We’ll see. First cook will be tomorrow.
You won't be dissapointed! Short learning curve as the burner/flame is a liitle closer to the food than you might be accustomed to. Great for small, "fast cooks".
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
What I recall about my old Charbroil before it rusted out was that it truly was a high temp only grill, and easy to burn stuff on too, with the close proximity of the burners to the grate. If the Weber has better flame control, I imagine it will be much better to cook on. And I imagine being Weber it has a porcelain or other such finish that would not rust out like my cheap-o Charbroil did with a painted/powdercoated finish.
Jfrosty27 my last Charbroil mini gasser was not rained on but was on a shelf in a backyard shed. The humidity just got to it over a 10 year period. It was so rusty at some point I just tossed it. I had gotten rid of the boat, and sure didn't want to cook on something that turned my hands red when I touched it. The Coleman stove sitting next to it on the same shelf is 25 years old, and still looks good.
