MCS has arrived - MHP a candidate

My venerable and ancient Brinkmann steel frame aluminum body 4-burner with side burner etc. has been with me for 20 years at least. However, it's just too large for our deck and has to share space with the Silverbac and a Weber kettle. We're only two of us so don't need the extra cooking area that we used when having parties and such. So - looking for something maybe 24 inches wide and folding side shelf.

This month's Giveaway choice of a Modern Home Products JNR series added this one to my short list. But, I have a couple of questions that the MHP website doesn't exactly answer. How wide is the unit with the shelf folded? It appears to have 2 control knobs but only one H-burner? And lastly, the BBQGuys link in the review seems to be broken - is this still a valid offer? It's a bit of a premium item but will surely be the last grill I buy.

I don’t see it on BBQGuys, MHP’s website shows their products with a “where to buy” link - which I did not follow.

Proudly manufactured in Antioch, IL by the same company whose founder invented the first residential gas grill back in 1960….. The JNR model gas grills feature two independent grilling zones and a thick, cast aluminum exterior construction with a high temperature powder coat finish on the outside that provides lasting beauty and durability. Key Grill Features: Stainless-steel cooking grids FlavorMaster porcelain briquettes Stainless-steel briquette grate Dual stainless-steel H-style burner Constant spark electronic ignition One folding stainless-steel shelf Black, powder coated, cast aluminum permanent mount base Black, powder coated, cast aluminum portable cart base (2) 6-inch wheels for easy grill portability Limited lifetime warranty UL certified LP Tank not included If you're looking for the last grill you'll ever need to buy, look no further. MHP brand grills are constructed of the finest weather-resistant materials and are built to last for generations!!!

      JNR Grillhead:
      36-1/2" Shelves Up
      26-1/2" Shelves Down

The H burner sides are independent. Left and right as opposed to front and back.
I have watched the same video several times because I have considered this grill for a while now. I think the cost and the bricks have put me on pause. Not sure about dealing with the bricks.

The link worked for me. I am on an iPad using Safari.

        Thanks for the comments!

I was a bit surprised about the bricks, didn't think anybody did that any more. I previously had a grill with lava rocks which I didn't care for, but these look better.

My locked-down Firefox wouldn't open the link, but the private window option works.

Yeah, this looks like a great grill. I wonder why there aren't more videos about it. I watched one video a long time ago about the bricks. I dunno. Just seems like they would be a pain to clean, and I am not sure what extra benefit they give. At least they don't rust. 😆

The cooker arrived in two installments, somehow the 3 pieces were removed from the pallet by FedX and arrived on Sunday and today, Tuesday. They are on my deck, awaiting the grand unpacking tomorrow.

Nice haul! Let us know how easily it assembles and how your first cook goes. Congrats on your newest toy.

It wasn't the easiest to assemble. I ordered it with the wheeled black column stand as pictured in the big Giveaway. There are some interesting blind places to get your hands in to place a nut. All the hardware seems first-class, the laser-cut stainless parts like the side shelf and access panel cover were covered with a protective film. The ceramic bricks seem to provide good coverage below the grates. The grates are their version of GrillGrates. Pictures after rain!

The only thing I miss is a handle to move it around, not a convenient place to grab it, particularly if it's hot!

Assembled and ready to go! First cook was 2 NY Strip Steaks, reverse seared. It's pleasure to use!

Those ceramic bricks look incredible. I’l bet they will give great flavor.

Just picked up the WNK model with SS side shelves at a local propane store. Looks like you got the SearMagic cooking grids too. They claim to have invented it before GrillGrate. Cost is on the high side but cast aluminum body and base, a lifetime guarantee and made in the US costs money. Fortunately for me the store assembled it and I will never have to buy another gas grill.

Also ordered a steel griddle for it which just arrived so I'll be posting and giving a review.
