    The char-broiler came in!

The much awaited arrival has finally happened! Below are pictures of the assembly as it went along. Seeing what is inside one of these makes it easier to understand how they work. Here is the cart it is going on. It’s a Harbor freight tool cart that is rated at 450 pounds and has good 5 inch casters. I turned the top tray upside down to make it table, all the bolts still fit so no drilling was needed. The best part is with a coupon it was only $68.00. The lava rock kit is an option I bought to get a bit more Smokey flavor. It’s a 40,000 BTU unit which should be just fine. The cooking area is about 12 inches by 24 inches. I’ll get it plumed to propane tomorrow.

Beastly! How much does that unit weigh? I bet it can sear the hell out of some meat.

With the lava rock kit added it weighs 125 pounds. I assembled it on the cart so I didn’t have to lift that much at once.

I thought those rocks were frozen meat parts. Sure to test the limits of that unit.

With those kind of BTU you could also use it as an outdoor deep fry station. Cast iron pot and a couple jugs of oil and you're in......or more correctly, out(side).

They’re mostly in commercial kitchens and food trucks. I love the flavor they produce on steaks, burgers, and chicken. If you remember the flavor that those old gas grills with lava rocks produced it’s like that.

I will be very interested to see results here similar to your excellent Chudd griddle updates.

We haven’t used the Chudd in a couple of months. The last time was doing smash burgers and Oklahoma onion burgers. It is great at both. My MCS tends to get the best of me regularly.
