This is my first real posting on the site, even though I have lurked and read for several years now. I mostly just do simple grilling on our gas grill. Steaks burgers kabobs, chicken and such. The simple stuff one does on a simple grill.
I have over the last 20+ years of camping with travel trailers and 5th wheels bought and sold and bought again, portable gas grills to hook up to the RV's gas line. I have had some good to fair ones and not so good ones. Most have been single burners. A few have been double burners. The dual burners seems to work best over all. Even so the dual burners were never true dual zone cooking capable. Once the lid closed down they entire grill inside was heated up making two zones hard to achieve. That has been my story until now.
I bought the new Kenmore 2 Burner portable gas grill back in late spring. What a great buy it has become. It is a true dual zone cooker for sure. I can reverse sear my steaks all day long with it. It is very well made nothing but quality through out. Kenmore did this little grill right. It may look retro as they call it ,but that large high lid serves a purpose. It allows the grill to have true two zone cooking. I have spent all summer using this little grill and just love it. Its legs have soft rubber feet and they fold in to help make it fit inside any campers storage compartment. The grease tray goes in and out very easy. The grate is cast iron. The steal body is thick and strong also. The handles make it easy to pick up and move around. The little lid latches lock the lid down very secure. This grill is made to travel and it shows. You can use it with a regular gas tank or hook it up to your campers gas line outlet. You will have to buy the gas hose to make it work with the camper, but they are easy to find and cheap. I have cooked many steaks on this grill now all to perfection. Burgers and chicken too. It has a warming rack above and unlike most portable grills this one really works and doesn't burn the buns of veggies. Its as if I'm home cooking on our Weber Genesis 310. Lots of cooking space on this little grill. You don't feel trapped into squeezing all the food on the thing like you do most portable grills. It has very good heat and the burners can get it hot. They say you can get 14000 BTU out of these two small burners ,all I know is it gets to the temps I want with ease. The little temp gauge on top is off about 50 degrees on mine. Seems to say it is hotter than my temp prob says it is. Not a big deal to me as I have not seen one like this ever read correctly.
The grill has a small con. There are two slim slots in the bottom on both sides about two inches from grease drain. Not sure why they put those slots on the grill. Found while cooking burgers they tend to allow tiny spots of grease to land on the table the grill is sitting on. Most people wouldn't notice this but I did. That's it , that's the con. A griddle will throw out more grease and so too some other portables I have had in the past.
Over all this is a wonderful small portable grill and does a excellent job at the campsite. It just happens to look good also. For the first time in 20+ years of RV camping, I am happy with a portable grill and have no complaints. Kenmore did this little puppy right.
