Jenn Air gas grill?

Anyone ever hear of them? My neighbor was recently in the market for a new grill and asked for my advice. He was looking for something in the 3 to 5 hundred dollar range so I tried to steer him towards the charcoal Weber Performer line. I have a Platinum Performer and flat out love it. It's right in his price range and he's raved about the food that he's tried that I've cooked on it. I figured it was a no-brainer, that's what he'd buy.

So about an hour ago he calls me and asks if I want to see his new "baby". Again, I was expecting to see the latest tricked out Performer set-up but no, he unveils a hardly used Jenn Air gas grill that he found on Craigslist. Granted, it looks like he got a good deal, he paid 3 hundred for what looks like a thousand dollar grill but the thing is nothing more than bells and whistles. Under grill storage, slide out condiment compartments, huge side trays, the whole nine yards. He's so pleased with it that he challenged me to a cook off with all of our friends and family invited.

Does anyone have any experience with this brand of grill? From what I can tell they're not even made anymore. Regardless, I'm looking forward to our cook off later this summer.

I have an old Jenn Air (maybe 15 plus years old) that is a great grill. The grill survived a California wild fire, but the house was burnt to ashes. (the grill also survived a 7.5 earthquake) The knobs are melted, but it works great with a very heavy thick lid. I have looked for a replacement grill for it with no luck. However I have found the Jenn Air brand at Costco. I would say the quality as gone way down and they are more of a starter grill, which might not last that long. I hope that helps you out.

Jenn Air is one of many NexGrill brands. Not too bad if one can get a good deal as your neighbor did.
