Just picked up a used AOG stainless steel grill for $20. Body is in great shape, side burner looks never used, but I need to replace the regulator with the LP version, and possibly replace the burners. Any one else using these grills or have experience with replacing the components? Not in an immediate rush to get it up and running but looking forward to fixing it up!

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Hey - if its been on natural gas, and you are switching to LP, what needs replacing is not the burners, as I assume they are likely stainless, but the orifices that screw into the Venturi tubes, before the gas/air mix gets to the burners themselves. Usually this is attached to the control knobs as part of a manifold, and the orifices are little brass things that screw into the ends that enter the burner tubes. There is one per burner typically - your grill burners and the side burner.
Natural gas has a lower energy density than LP/Propane, so requires larger holes to get the same BTU's. You may be able to run the grill with just adding an LP regulator, but the flame will be higher than it should, and you may have high flame on a low setting for example. To get normal flame levels you will want to find the right orifices with the proper opening for that grill. If AOC is still in business, you may be able to get that direct from them - but realize it is NOT part of the burner assembly, so replacing the burners won't fix the issue.
EDIT: I see a number of pages online claiming to sell conversion kits for American Outdoor grills - it's just a bag of orifices and some other parts. I am sure you will find the one you need to get it back to propane.

I really appreciate this info! You helped make sense of the orifices for me which I didn’t know much about. I was tempted just to try the regulator swap and see how it goes…you have me tempted. Figured the burners were/are good they just look old and crusty and I feel like they should be replaced. Thanks again for all the great info!
