    Gasser Replacement Advice

Welp, it time. After 17 years and 1 week it's just time to move on.

I'm sorry Possibly Nigel, but we no longer have a position for you. Your performance has become increasingly unacceptable, to the point where we've eliminated almost all your duties or moved them to other departments. As a reward for your long service you will be unceremoniously wheeled into the alley at 2 AM and abandoned. Good day, Sir.

For the second time in roughly a month it's just quit working after about 1/3 of a tank. It's almost certainly the regulator, but it's just not worth fixing anymore. The thing is it's been such a POS for so long it's completely fallen out of my workflow, except for the side burner which gets used all the time.

So, I'm kinda rethinking if I even need a gas grill. It really only gets used for the side burner and as a warming oven. So my current thinking is:

    A) Wait a few weeks until the big box stores all decide Summer Is Over And It Is Time For Halloween Now and buy another gasser. This is pretty much the easy button.

    B) Hit Craigslist and buy Someone Else's Problem. Not really an option, seeing how much people seem to value 25 year old, roached out Summits.

    C) Another prep table and a portable burner.

    D) A Camp Chef stove like the 3 burner 16" models. Probably the most flexible, with all the accessories the make for 'em.

    E) Just realize that three kettles, a PBJr., and GriddleBot might just be considered a wee bit excessive by Normal People and maybe you don't need another cooker after all. Nah.

Right now I'm in between A and D, leaning toward D, though C has it's charms. I dunno, mostly just thinking out loud.

Depending on what you want to spend, Grilla Grills has a sale on their Primate right now.
Comes with a full-size griddle too.

Budget is one factor to consider, but I would ask these questions, too. How many people will you typically cook for? How often will you do this in a week? How often will you cook for more than you typically cook for and how often will that happen? Will you be grilling or smoking or both? Do you favor gas or charcoal?

With respect to Option A, since you don’t use a gasser very often, maybe something smaller in size yet capable if needed? Definitely with a side burner in your case, of course. That Napoleon Freestyle series does look nice.

Why not something like a PKGO or Weber Jr. (Whatever the small one is called) so you can dump a load of lit coals in for easy searing? Then you also have something portable for picnics or camping if that is your thing.

Who gives a rip here. We have a member who is down in the mouth, a little saddened, unhappy wiff his cooker or cooking solutions, just a tad depressed, melancholy, (I think I covered all the bases) & what do we do? What should we do? The only decent thing that a Pit Dude or Dudette should do, invoke MCS & urge him to do the unthinkable, but the right thing to do, Git another one, a new or almost new gasser. We know he’ll feel better after we hep him spend his money. mnavarre stand up and go git em!!!

I've had my eye on the Blaze Professional gasser. Being made from 304 sst it will last a lifetime in San Diego (or here in central FL).

Translating from FireMan to English, go buy a grill. What are you waiting for?

Oh, probably the end of summer sales. Or the heat death of the universe. Something like that. Gonna be a few weeks at least, either way,

Since you only use the gasser as a warming oven and use the side burner all the time, it seems that the answer is "A" but with a side burner. And buy a cover

To me it sounds like you need one of those fancy new Traeger Timberlines. You’d get an induction side burner and a thermostatically controlled holding oven. Who knows, you might even decide to cook on it too.

Also, CampChef has gas Sidekick units that fit several of their pellet grills too.

I've seen a lot of QC issues with the newer CC models on other sites and some things that would make me hesitate customer service wise lately as well... sucks because normally I'd promote a CC product as a midrange pellet cooker especially with their side attachment options

Seeing as you don’t use a gasser much, I’d lean towards the stove option…
I have a Camp Chef Somerset IV, which unfortunately they no longer make…but having multiple “side burners” offers up all sorts of versatility. Especially if space isn’t a major factor.

FWIW, I still love my 2005 6-burner Summit Platinum…but wouldn’t replace it with their latest offerings.

I'd actually use the gasser if the bloody thing worked worth a damn. I keep going back and forth between a gasser and a stove. Can't do anything about it for a few weeks at least, so I've got plenty of time to not make up my mind.
