    Gotta love a good auction...

When people are somewhat clueless to what is in front of them. I was able to procure a $50 gas grill yesterday, and it was all i could do to contain my excitement at the prospect of owning a Modern Home Products TJK gas grill for so cheap. This baby is in good (but used) shape, and i still don't know if it even works, but that is my next project to find out what parts i will need to replace. Many thanks to Max Good for his review of the Modern Home Products grills, as that was my driving force to pick this baby up. It is pretty close to 100% complete with the tank holder bar as the only part i found missing. Once i have this baby up and functional, i'll most likely replace half of the grates with Grill Grates (it didn't come with the "Sear Magic" grates.

Also a call out to Smokin.Briget as she was a recent winner of similar Modern Home Products gas grill, albeit a different model. Briget, how has your experience been with your new grill? I'm soo looking forward to my new toy and can't wait to get it up and running.
All MHP grills present a variety of options. The WNK4 may be ordered with stainless steel rod cooking grates and warming racks, or "Sear Magic" grates.

This is the pic from the auction website. I researched it, scoped it out at the auction house and started the bidding at $25...with only one other person bidding, i won the bid at $50. Sa-weet!

WOW! Even if your TJK needs some TLC, MHP is worth fixing up. Keep us posted Mr Lucky!

Don't be squirrelly... The price could get all the way up to $53 if we're not carful.🤑

Sorry guys... I'd like to help you out but the shipping will kill you. This thing is a beast to move.. i'm guessing by how my back feels from deadlifting into the van yesterday, it's gotta go a hundred pounds! This thing is a tank.

GRILL UPDATE. It took longer than expected to get to working on the new toy than i wanted, but i finally got some time to dig into the MHP TJK and get a feel for overall condition. After a quick scrub of the grates, a gentle cleaning of the stainless hood and taking a shopvac to the insides, i hooked up a full 20lb propane bottle and checked for leaks. It did take a bit of fiddling to get a good connection from the regulator to the bottle. Connection success, and no leaks! We're off to the races!

I turned on the gas to the burner and hit the starter. no spark. Not unexpected, as those things are typically one of the first things to go. After taking it out of the grill, giving it a little cleaning and checking all connections, i re-installed it. Hood open, gas back on, good flow to the burner... still nothing. Not a problem... this is now the first part i need to order from MHP, and thankfully they have a pretty good parts department. So i dug out the extendo-lighter and repeated the starting process the old fashioned way... success! We have a nice blue flame coming from both sides of the H burner. Now we are cooking with gas!

I put the grill grates back in, and put the grill clip on the temp probe and snapped that in the middle of the grill. I set the burners to high and let 'er rip. It's at this time that i noticed that the grill dial on the hood was pegged well past the 560 max mark on it. I had just turned it up and there is no way it should be reading so high this quick. but be that as it may.... 2nd item going on the replacement parts list. Forward!

About 5 minutes later, i noticed an HHH reading on the ET-732 remote. Hrmmm. Looks like i exceeded the 573 degree max rating of the Maverick. i wandered back over to check on the grill and holy smoke (pun intended), she was really throwing the heat! i think i was well over 600 degrees, but i had no way of knowing for sure, so i got out the infrared thermometer to see what that said... it only registered a temp of 525 off of the side wall. I turned the burners down to low in an effort to get a low level reading. It took a while to settle down, and time didn't allow me to completely map temps across the entire surface (i'll save that for another day) but long story short... we are functional.

Later that night, I proceeded to grill up some chicken breasts and some blu burgers (burgers with blue cheese in them). I had forgotten how simple cooking on a gas grill can be and look forward to mixing and matching between all the grill/smoker toys going forward.

And before i forget, a shout out to Dale, Jill & Diana at Team MHP. Wonderful customer service and fast shipment of the replacement parts i ordered.
