    Old Gas Grills

My neighbour has put this gas grill out to street, I guess he is done with it, the garbage man will pick it up on Wed. It looks like it is a brand name grill. In the past I have bought replacement parts for my gas grills and kept them in use for years. I am wondering if manufacturers have increased prices forcing people to just throw them away? Your thoughts?

Not sure of an answer to your question, but I've put worn out grills at the curb before, but the trash burglars get to them long before the garbage man does.

Maybe the guy is moving and is lighting up his load?

I would snatch that son of a gun right off the street. Broil King has been referred to as the Canadian Weber.

My last gasser was a Broil King Signet (one step down from this one). It was going into the dumpster, and I stopped my friend from tossing it. I spent an afternoon cleaning it, bought a new regulator, jerry-rigged a fix for a rusted out grease trap, and used it for a season, then gave it away when I got my griddle.

It probably has the same rusted out grease trap; it’s a bad design on an otherwise great grill. I used bungee cords to hold a couple aluminum drip trays where the trap would be.

ETA: Replacement parts are cheap for these, but some older parts are not available, or have been redesigned, or are just plain hard to reach and not worth it. That was my case: the part was only $20 or so, but the grill had been redesigned, and fixing it properly would have necessitated stripping everything down to the frame, beyond what original assembly would have entailed! There’s a reason people invented bungee cords. Part A-33 in the diagram, plus the surrounding rails etc.

I used to buy cheap gas grills with the expectation of them only lasting a few years. </= $100 or so.
            "Wast not, what not" LOL

BTW from the photo of the gas grill, it looks like a keeper, a fixer-upper.

              I'd grab it up.
Probably the burner is rotted out of it and whether you go with Broil King authentic parts or go to Home Depot/Lowes and grab generic parts its going to be a relatively easy fix.
              ....famous last words....

I have a Napoleon prestige natural gas grill that I like and use, I do not need another gas grill. I thought this was made by Weber for some reason. I will ask my neighbour if it works, I think the grease tray is rotted out as it was inside the grill on grates. My next purchase will be a griddle/flat top.

Yep, like I thought: the grease tray. The rails that it slides into rust away, actually, as well as the tray itself. Take a couple smaller aluminum drip pans and bungee them up there in place. See the diagram above. Close the bottom doors and no one will know.

Yup snatch it & then figger out what needs to be done & how much it costs.

I’ll bet there’s still some life in it. Heck, maybe the sear burner still works even if nothing else does.

Me too. Wouldn't be the first time we dragged something home.

Broil King is a fine grill company, not affiliated with Weber. I believe the parent company is Onward. I'm on my second grill from them (Signet as in Mosca's post), they are good quality. As I understand it, they have a plant in Indiana too.

At the least, grab it and take to metal recycler. Get a couple buck$

Yep I would have grabbed that in a hot minute. Some folks just don’t know that parts can be replaced, or don’t know how or care. That’s a good grill - just might need cleaning and maybe new grates or burners.
