MCS + Lowes 25% Off + Guy needing new Gasser = Another Cooker

*For those of you who don't like to read a lot here is a brief summary: Got a new Grill (Char Broil Commercial Tru-Infrared) and here are some pictures. In the paragraphs below you will get a story and reasoning for the decision.

Well I had been trying to fight off my MCS this year since I new I was going to have to make a few big purchases this year (mower, new roof, and a few other things). I've been wanting/needing a new gasser for a couple of years but have been holding off and just using my Weber Q so I could purchase some other toys (PBC, BBQ accessories, thermometers, SnS stuff, etc... I think most of you know what I'm talking about)... Well Lowes came along with a 25% off Char Broil Commercial Tru-Infrared gasser (gold medal rating on AR)... so after much hem hawing around and making frequent stops to check them out and compare them to other grills my wife told/instructed/ordered me to just purchase it already (I think she was just tired of my excuses to stop at Lowes all the time and look at grills).

I was hesitant because my first two considerations have always been Weber and Broil King with Char Broil's Commercial line being a solid third choice because of the economics of it. Weber has kind of concerned me because of the new Genesis II... my thought is if you move manufacturing overseas then you can lower the price... Weber on the other hand seems to have moved the manufacturing overseas and raised the price to what I feel outweighs the new features (the AR reviews seem to agree). Broil King has a couple models made in my home state of Indiana and have constantly drawn my interest and will one day get another close look by me... but the decision really came down to the pocketbook and a $499 grill for $375 that gave me a lot of what I'm looking for won out compared to getting something that costs at least twice as much to get comparable features. Side burner with griddle is a biggie for me (and my wife) so we can have a place to cook dishes that give off a strong aroma since we don't have good kitchen ventilation in the starter house.

Haven't had a chance to use it yet as it just got delivered today but if it performs like my father-in-law's old Char Broil does then I'm sure we will get along just fine... May have to add some grill grates to my Christmas list though.

On a side note: where I have the gasser now is kind of windy but it is the best place I had for the moment. One mod I have already thought about because of my lack of good places to put this is either building a sub frame/cart for the unit with some pneumatic wheels to make it easier to roll on some gravel and grass or finding a way to just straight replace the casters that are currently on there.

Now to update my Cooker & Accessories Acquisition Spreadsheet.

Thanks DW... I'm looking forward to it as well... Just have to find a night when I can get home from work or board meetings in time to use it this week. That is actually one of the reasons I finally purchased a gasser. Schedule has been getting crazy and the convenience is just too handy.

I was going to say that is pretty cook it has the griddle. I recently have been fascinated with old cookware. Copper with tin lining. I was thinking of making a griddle that was copper tin plated for a grill setup. We will see if I get around to it.

Weber goosed the price of the new Genesis II LX models significantly. LX is still made in Illinois. The standard Genesis models moved to China and price stayed in line with the previous versions.

Very nice, it is good to have more than one type of grill in the arsenal. (that is what I am trying to convince my wife of). It is hard to beat the convience of a gas grill for a quick cook. I like to cook outside as much as possible. Keeps the heat out of the house. and in Houston, that is important.
