    Cookin Pellets

I used cookin pellets for the first time to cook my Thanksgiving Turkey, and I must say I am impressed. I have used Pit Boss, Bear Mountain and primarily Traeger pellets, since I own a Traeger. The pellets have a smaller form factor than other pellets, and I have to say that I have had a large difference between the temperature on my Thermoworks Smoke and the internal thermostat, but this was reduced with the cookin pellets (IMO). The only thing I noticed is that the pellets would „crater“ more in the hopper. I am sold and will probably stick with these since I am in a remote area with no other brands other than the big ones. Luckily a local stove store buys a pallet and sells them. Reasonably too. Oh yeah, the turkey was delicious and you could see the smoke in the meat.

I have been using the pellets from CookinPellets for about 5 years and I also find they work real well in my Rec Tec plus Amazon delivers them to my door.

I have not used any other pellets but Cooking Pellets since I first tried them after being disappointed in the smoke flavor from other brands. Cooking Pellets are great and Amazon does indeed make getting them real easy. Bonus about Cookin Pellets: Also a better value for the money in my opinion.

The first pellets I ever tried were Cookin Pellets. I have since tried Pit Boss, Traeger, BBQr's Delight, Louisiana Grill Pellets, and countless other/lesser known brands. I always keep coming back to Cookin Pellets, consistent temperature, great flavor, and seem to last longer than other brands.

I bought the perfect mix blend. They are not lying with that name.

Is there any way to get these pellets from any company other than Amazon? I do not like to support them. I am looking at Cooking pellets because I purchased a Oklahoma Joe's smoker and cannot get their pellets where I am at and have used Traeger pellets and Pit Boss pellets. I am trying to find out if it is the pellets I am using or that I bought a terrible pellet smoker as the temperature swings are amazing horrible. I actually bought it to try to control temperatures. Looks like I might have made just a bad purchase. Thanks for any recommendations.

I buy straight from the company when they offer free shipping as a promotion. They were cheaper than Amazon by a long ways at around $20 a bag.

Ponyrider First, welcome to the talking side of the Pit! You can buy CookinPellets direct from them if you’re willing to buy 7, 10, 15 or more bags. They go down in price per bag that way too. On their site, they also have a dealer locator somewhere, but I didn’t have much luck finding any near me. Those listed nearby were unresponsive.

While I love CookinPellets and cannot believe I missed a thread praising them, I have to say that I doubt they will resolve temp swing issues on your cooker. That’s usually up to the controller on the grill. I’m not familiar with the OKJ pellet grills, but there could be some settings that can sometimes help with swings. Traegers used to have P-settings which controlled the minimum amount of time the controller waited before activating the auger again. Lowering it would often reduce swings (but made lower temps harder to achieve in warm weather). My experience with CookinPellets has been less ash, more smoke, and less dust in bags. Very little in actual grill performance.

What kind of swings are you seeing? If you’re within +/-25 of your set temp, I’d quit watching it and just cook away. This is hard to do, I know. In general, swings produce more smoke. Get a lot bigger than those numbers and I understand your frustrations as the predictability of the cook gets hard and things like charring rubs with sugars, etc. become issues.

                    Ponyrider Welcome from Wisconsin.
You might want to start a new thread in the Pellet Cooker channel located here
That will get you the most help with getting your naughty pellet pooper behaving as best as it can. As glitchy stated above, swings of twenty five or so degrees are not something that is going to affect the quality of the BBQ.
