    Smokey Woods Pellets

Bought this brand today at local Ace. I have never heard of them. Anyone have any experience?

I don't have a pellet grill so I don't know but when I cook on my offset unit I burn their 8" mini splits. Those work great for me and the only ones that I currently use.

A bit pricey. $36 for just 20 lbs of pellets. They better be ungodly good for that price.

It seems like these brands pop up all the time so I was skeptical to try it, but I picked up a bag of their wood chunks and I’ve been thoroughly impressed. It’s made me want to try their pellets so I am interested to hear what you think.

I purchased a Weber Searwood in April and I average 4 to 5 cooks per week. I have tried Traeger, Bear Mountain and Smokey Woods is far superior in flavor (even my wife noticed) and pellet usage. Very little dust and burns clean. I paid 15.99 for a 20lb on sale and there normal price is $20 at my Ace store. I don’t think I would pay $36 for a bag. What others brands should I try as I am still experimenting with brands and blends.

I have a family member that switched from Traeger to Costco Competition Blend. Not sure about the burn rate but he said that the smoke flavor was greatly improved.
        As always... YMMV 🙂

Rseibertgriller Keep me posted on your search for a pellet that produces smoke flavor. I have the Searwood XL 600 and so far have had little success in my search for such a pellet. I have a few more pellets to try . I recently read an article that contended that most pellets are produced with limited amounts of the featured hardwood, but mostly consist of other cheap hardwoods.

That's not a contention, that's just a known fact. Most brands use oak or alder as a filler in undisclosed proportions -- Cookinpellets prides itself on not using either, but its blends just use maple in the same way. There are only a few brands that offer some 100% single-species pellets (e.g., Cookinpellets, Lumber Jack), and even those aren't available in all woods. Though, it should be noted, it's not like oak, alder, or maple are bad woods for smoking, and some woods, like mesquite, you probably wouldn't want to use 100% pure anyway. The best thing is brands (like Lumber Jack) that disclose exactly what woods are in the bag in what proportions.

They really don't provide much info. Probably worth a try though.

captainlee I haven’t found any that are specific as to what they are made of. They all say 100% hardwood and no fillers, but they never get specific as to which hardwoods are used and as to what % is used. If the price is cheap I am pretty sure it is made of cheap hardwoods.
