Has anyone used Smokin' Pecan pellets? My understanding is that they are made of pecan shells. Someone on a Recteq forum mentioned them and said they produce a lot more smoke flavor than traditional hardwood pellets. I thought I'd ask here if anyone can confirm or if that guy was... blowing smoke. 😂

I have not used them, but have considered it. Lots of guys on YouTube are using them - I suspect they've shipped out a bunch of them to influencers. I know Bradley Robinson from Chud's BBQ is using them pretty much exclusively in his pellet cooker series. I don't doubt that they're decent, maybe even better - but it's sure easier to say nice things about a product when it's sent to you for free.

I have no idea, as I am not a pellet head, but if you get some and try them let us know what you think.
I would bet they just fine, it would be interesting to see a side by side comparison. Shells might have a different flavor profile from the wood of a pecan tree. For what it is worth, I used coconut husks for my smoke when I did a rib cook on Grand Cayman a couple of years ago. It worked great. At no point did any "coconut flavor" come through, but it worked just fine and imparted a solid smoke profile.
As far as them producing more "smoke flavor", that has much more to do with the temp and intensity of the fire than anything else. If you are curious and you have not checked out this article, it might provide some insight.

I have some 100% pecan shell pellets (kind of) made in Louisiana. They are crumbly for a pellet, but were definitely a flavor boost mixed with real wood pellets.

Would they work best in a smoke tube rather than in the pellet hopper since they are crumbly?

I would think you would want to put them in a smoke tube. I would want to avoid putting anything in the hopper that it is not designed for. (Not a pellet head, so I might be wrong here.) tstalafuse
