My only concern with smaller diameter pellets would be that it would raise the possibility of the turning auger-feed mechanism maybe not being as efficient at delivering the pellets to the firepot - some pellets might be able to slip by between the outer diameter of the auger and the inner diameter of the feed tube. Or worst case, cause a jam of some kind. No bueno. I've tried a fair number of brands and the diameters all seem to be very close to the same, from memory - but I've never measured them.
When you say "work better", how do you mean?

I see no mention of GE smoker, why do you assume that's what he's referring to? And why would a GE smoker benefit from a thinner pellet? You clearly know something I don't!

BostonBestEats I'll comment where I please, I was excited to see a new potential member so active so soon... we like active participants in the pit.

DaveD because the only pellet cooker I recall them commenting about was the GE one. And my brain thinks for some reason that thinner pellets might combust better than thicker ones in the GEs heater thingy since it isn't a traditional burnpot design, and also with it being a sealed unit (ignoring that it filters out smoke and exhausts air still) that a combusted pellet may lend to a better end product than a slowly smoldering one?

Pit Boss usually is rabbit food size but occasionally has a long piece (this may be because I've only bought PB at WalMart or Lowes and they abuse the bags and pallets. I'm assuming for your GE unit so the long pieces you could just break by hand. Lumberjack and Bear Mountain are fairly thin diameter but LJ I believe uses bark so not so sure how that would work with a sealed unit like the GE might affect the flavor might not.

Smokers/Grills:
Camp Chef Smokepro DLX pellet grill
Weber Kettle
Dyna-Glo vertical offset smoker
Favorite whiskey:
Knob Creek Single Barrel Bourbon
Angels Envy Bourbon
Whistle Pig Rye
Everyday sipper:
Jim Beam Black and Wild Turkey Rye 101
Favorite beer:
Coffee Porter or Stouts
Pabst Blue Ribbon and Narragansett for grilling and lawn mowing.
I find that my Camp Chef pellet grill performs better with a smaller, thinner pellet. After using several brands Lumberjack is the one that I have the best performance with using the smoke setting. The setting
is set for specific auger timing, I believe every 90 seconds to drop pellets into the burn pot. Bear Mountain is a very close second.

All the pellet poopers I've seen, the auger fits tightly in the tubs so it is unlikely a small pellet would clog it. Clogs are usiually due to sawdust or pellets that got wet and disolved and then hardened.
