We've had gas since buying this house, 23 years ago. The first stove was a very basic Kenmore. Very plain, but worked fine. Cost in parts to keep it running for 18-19 years (when we decided to update the kitchen)? $29.00 plus about half hour of my labor.

Replaced it with a nicer Kenmore about 5 years ago. But not before I researched replacement parts. This one is about as cheap to keep running as the old one.

I'm with the others when they mention repair costs. The more complex/computerized they are the less likely they can be serviced cheaply and more likely to break down.

Which is why I won't be giving up my matching Super Duty Kenmore washer and gas dryer circa 1997, anytime soon. Also about $30 in parts over the last 28 years and easy to repair.

Glad I had a father growing up who was a quality control inspector for Maytag, Frigidaire, Kenmore, and Whirlpool appliances. He knew which ones were a problem waiting to happen and which one's were reliable. He kept all our appliances running well for decades, and I carefully watched him do it.

FYI, not sure I would recommend Kenmore these days in certain appliance categories. They seemed to gone the way of many of the other manufacturers over the years. In fact, we have a mish-mash of kitchen appliances. Samsung, Whirlpool, and Kenmore.

Since they're all SS, they at least look similar.

We are still rocking a black Kenmore 30" gas cooktop that replaced a Kitchenaid 36" electric cooktop 26-27 years ago when I remodeled and flipped the stove and oven to the opposite side of the kitchen to open things up. The porcelain is coming off the round style cast iron grids for each burner, but the stove itself is still working on all 4 burners. I doubt anything I replace it with will last as long.

I've resisted replacing it, as it will force replacing the Kemore oven to match...

I love my gas stove and will not give it up, even though I know the negatives.

This looks pretty cool, but at this stage of my life I'm gonna stay with gas cooktops. I can look at a flame and know pretty much how it's going to work. That's why virtually every commercial kitchen in the world uses gas cookers.

I love stuff like this, but the older I get, the less susceptible I am. And the price is a big hill to climb.

If we had a gas line at the street, I'd be on Team Gas. Unfortunately we don't. Bought an electric double oven range a couple years ago when ours crapped out the week of Christmas...Along with my large flat screen TV. That was an expensive holiday

            We've had to replace both our cooktop, oven and microwave recently. I would love to have gas but we don't have gas available on our street. We went with an induction cooktop and it has been working out well for us. My wife is ultra sensitive about scratches, some may have read this thread;

I looked at the page again. The matching hood is included! That explains the price.

At that price, all you should have to do is dump the ingredients on the stove and come back when it's ready.

I would love to have a gas cooktop but my house is all electric. Gas is available on my street but I'm afraid to even ask about the cost of piping it to the house. But I have lots of options - camp chef stove, pellets, charcoal. 3 burner propane stove on the RV. This thing looks to newfangled for me. The older I get, the more I am attracted to simplicity. And Panhead John

Been in this house since 1981. Started with electric cooktop. About 1990 switched it out for gas. Wife did not understand why, then cooked on it, and understood.

We like a gas cooktop because if there is ever a power problem then we can still use it with a lighter. Before we got a generator a few years ago, we would lose power often. During Katrina, it was 10 days. The gas grill we had then was good to cook with as long as the tank wasn't empty...and you didn't dare try to get it filled with people going nuts even here in c MS.
We had a glass top gas back then but can't remember the name, but do remember using that white cream to try and clean it.

What comes to my mind is replacing a taillight bulb in an old truck: $3. Replacing a tail light in a new truck >$1000.
Years from now will parts be available? “those semiconductor chips are no longer available, sorry”.
My gas cooktop keeps it simple and repairable.
A lot of the features described have little benefit to me.
                  I’ll stick with gas.

                    Amen to this.

I am currently in a pickle with my 1996 Chevy pickup. I was told by someone that my 3rd (high) brake light was out. I went to replace the bulbs, and the circuit board they go into was all corroded. It happens. No one sells a replacement now that is not a sealed LED based fixture, with LED's for the brake light and the cargo lamps for the bed!

I ended up with one of those LED fixtures off Amazon. The thing fills up with water every time it rains! Gotta try again...

smokenoob the original high brake light has been sitting in the backseat for a year. I may just pull it back out and see if I can clean up all the contacts and get it to work again. At this point the cheap $25 light from Amazon has filled with water enough times to where most of the LED's are burned out.

I imagine eBay might turn one up too...
